It may not be the right thing to say, but for the most part I think he is spot on about the way the Pirates have been run for quite a while.

The Buccos still have the built in excuse about the "no salary cap", but the Pirates franchise has been pathetic for the better part of the past 10 years, and it's kinda sad to see honestly.

Good thing nobody outside of Pittsburgh cares about this team. Opening day, and they can't even get the logistics right....

During the announcing of the teams, several guys with clipboards were running around a clump of Dodgers trying to get them lined up on the field in the correct order.

Then, they had to re-do the lines around home plate between innings because the measurements were off the first time they were put down.

If they can't even do this, I hope the league sends their own people in for the All Star festivities.

Stay classy Pittsburgh.

And I see it's business as usual today, down 3-0 after 1. Boy, Colborn has really helped Duke, eh  ?

Woo hoo! 5-0 Dodgers. Boy I'll bet Tracy wishes he was still there, where they have actual talent, not just overhyped youngsters and over-the-hill veterans. This is just getting comical.

I hope the fans start throwing garbage on the field. But if they did, you wouldn't be able to tell it from the players.

I don't even really care about baseball or the Buccos, but this is just sad.

jesus about time someone, anyone, like Keaton came out and ripped the ownership. Thank you Mike. The next question, can Batman assemble a cast of rich characters to buy the franchise from McClatchy/Nutting.

This team is a joke.

$100 says Zach Duke has an arm injury...already

What do you mean, "already?" He has already pitched more ML games than most of their youngsters did before they got hurt.

bases loaded 1 out.. Jason Bay at the plate

and there's 5-4-3 Double-Play to end the inning

maybe Bay is more patient and looks for his pitch to hit if he's protected by players in their prime, not Joe Randa or Jeromy Burnitz.

Burnitz has no business stealing a major league paycheck at this point. Randa is a good bench player, but that's about it.

On an unrelated note: I can honestly say that the cold weather is over. Why, you ask? Because my sinuses are bulging out of my eyes and my head is ready to explode.

Ha, it ain't just me today. I woke up the same way.

So what have we learned?

The Pirates suck as usual and I can plan a bar-b-q

A Barbecue sounds like much more fun than anything to do with the Pirates. When does Penguin training camp start?

On the bright side, when I visit in August, I can watch some very exciting minor-league prospects in a very very nice ballpark in a great town... :?

~ horrible sinus headache plus always have a runny nose/eyes in the AM.
Have to carry a kleenix with me.~ How attractive :!:
Barbecue sauce does a good job in opening the sinuses...

to be fair to the buccos; it's getting stale this penguin upswing always at the end of the season.
Although, in 2003 it was all bad.
It's time for the pens to begin as they end.

Good lord, I flew out for this? Duke sucked, the offense sucked (Earth to Jose Castillo: it's okay to take a pitch now and then), but at least the bullpen didn't implode today and the weather was awesome. To top it all off, the Pens are on the road the entire time I'm out here.

Argh.
