Verizon wireless broadband

Does anybody have the wireless Verizon broadband card/service? I'm thinking about buying it, but I have doubts how well that would work with the Pittsburgh topography. Any comments on the quality of service would be appreciated as well as comments on similar services from Sprint and Cingular.

Hi Draftnik,

I have a Verizon wireless Broadband access/national access PC card. Is that what you're talking about? Not sure I can be of help, since I have this through my employer and don't really know much about it, but I haven't had too many issues with it so far. I also live in Pittsburgh--seems sluggish at times, but have never had a connectivity issue.

Thanks for the feedback 60sixx. Do you have any feedback on how your actual connection speed compares to other services like Dial-up, DSL, and/or Cable?

Definitely waaay faster than dial-up, not quite as fast as DSL/cable. But it does the job opening up pages without wait agony and sending/receiving email. When I'm at home, I prefer my wireless card that goes through the DSL, but definitely have no qualms using the Verizon card.

Stay away, you will never get the quoted speeds during peak hours which is most of the time most people would want to use it. The customer service is a complete joke, most of the people speak so much broken english after 5 minutes you just want to give up and hang up the phone.

Go with Comcast cable internet if you already have cable tv with them, they have a deal for $29.99 a month for 12 months, and the speed is always faster than verizon DSL.

Some of the people that work for my company have Cingular's wireless access. I would recommend staying away as there are always downtime issues.

As soon as the technology behind the EV-DO routers is better and cheaper and Verizon lowers their boradband access to be close to Comcast I'll make the switch.
