It is sad to watch Lucas exploit his very limited accomplishments. He releases the original versions, then the "special" versions, and then re-releases the original versions; knowing full well that obsessed Star Wars fans will pick up every new DVD release. Sad.

The only thing is that these original originals are on just about every Top Most Wanted DVD's list. Frankly, these originals are pure public demand.

How many versions of Episode 1 2 and 3 are there? One. There will now be two versions of 4 5 and 6 (updated/20 year newer effects version and original).
How many versions of Lord of the Rings is there? Three of each movie? Two versions of King Kong, plus that DVD put out before the movie was released (a la X-Men 1.5).
There is talk of the Star Wars films being releases in 3D... but that's a bit of a stretch and IF it does happen would probably be 100% worth seeing.

This is awesome! I haven't bought any of Lucas's Star Wars DVD revisions or any of the new films, but frankly my VHS copies are starting to get a little damaged from so many repeat viewings. If they really release the originals I'll plunk down my cash for sure.
I bet the sales for these will be through the roof, because of people like me who have been waiting for the original version.

Yeah, darn Lucas and his limited accomplishments. And how dare he release something that people want to buy? Pure exploitation. What a hack.
Enough about Star Wars and how the people are geeks. I gotta go buy the WB/S Penguins 5th alternate color warmup sponsorship jersey.

I'm suprised our resident amish hasn't weighed in on the subject. Isn't Star Wars right up his alley?

In Star Wars, Han Solo shoots a bounty hunter named Greedo. Lucas changed the scene later so it seemed that Greedo draws first, and changed it again for the DVD so that they appear to shoot simultaneously.
He still didn't put it back. HAN SHOT FIRST!!!

If I recall correctly, in the original, Han did not shoot "first" I say that because in the original Greedo didn't shoot PERIOD. But... It's been a long time since I watched the original.

You are correct, sir! Greedo made a bunch of threats but was too stupid to realize a guy like Han would have a blaster handy. Oops.

The original scene is about 1000000 times better than the revision. This is the one change on which I am in complete agreement with the folks who complain about the revisions. The idea of Greedo shooting at all wrecks the scene and changes Han Solo's character (he's much, much cooler as the guy who shoots without waiting to be shot at).

Lucas is a money-making genius. The revised editions are basically the cinematic version of New Coke. Now he's whipped up public demand for the theatrical versions to a frenzy, after getting folks to buy, what, 4, 5, 6 different versions of the same three films on various media. Genius

I didn't say he wasn't smart. It is just sad to see him squeeze every red cent out of 25 year old films, films that have since been ruined by their creator's greed.

I hope he finally adds the deleted scenes to the special features section of the disc. You can get them off the web, why not cleaned up and edited on a disc?

That's a good saying. It applies to a lot of people in sports. Mark and John Madden, Ken Hitchcock, Andy Reid,...

That's right up with the Mark Madden classic..."Derek Bell's face looks like a sack of melted caramel."
