Favorite song that you've heard today...

Postby netwolf on Tue May 16, 2006 2:25 pm

And you have to have heard it before reading this. No fair reading this post, playing your favorite song, then replying. :P

I was driving back from lunch and heard "Treat Em Right" by Chubb Rock. Hooray for satellite radio and Backspin 43. :D

How about you?

Guns N' Roses - "Don't Cry"

Might be the best song they ever wrote.

"Well it's a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
'Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling"

I'm the best singer in my own car. :P

Either Wolfmother - Thief In The Night, or something off the new Built To Spill album, which I am listening to right now.

"Music is to Dance To" by the Fisher Price Little People...woops you mean one that I heard today that I like?!

Honestly, I can not tell you how many times I have been in the car by myself for 10 minutes and suddenly realized I was listening to Fisher Price music.

Favorite song I've heard today? I'd have to go with "Two More Years" by Block Party (but I haven't had much time to listen to music today :P).

If you want the best song I've heard recently (or at least the one I can't get out of my head), it'd have to be "Song With A Mission" by The Sounds.

Backspin is the greatest radio channel ever. I'd pay the $12.95/month just for that.

Oh, and I heard "I Got a Man" by Positive K - Same channel

Led Zeppelin's "The Rover". Great song, rarely heard considering local stations only play the same 7 Zeppelin songs.

Back when I was in college, we did most of our drinking at the fraternity houses on campus. But every once in a while, we would venture out into a few of the bars in town, and one of them was this tiny Irish pub called "Maggie's". Without fail, one of my friends would put this on the jukebox every time we went there. And now every time I hear this song, I think of Maggie's Pub, a Yuengling and the 25-30 people we brought with us that would pretty much take the place over.

Damn was that fun.

All I listen to on Sirius is backspin (43) and boombox(34). I loved Faction when I first got it, but you can only listen to so much My Chemical Romance and Angels and Airwaves.

best song I heard today: Pailhead - I will refuse. Combo of Ian MacKaye (ex-Minor Threat) and Al Jourgensen (Ministry)

Streaming update as to what's being played on Sirius. As far I can tell, it's accurate with a few seconds of delay

Another helpful Sirius item. Tells you when a certain artist or song was last played. Yes, it shows Pailhead being played last night, but it was the 2nd song I heard today on my pod.

I'm a diehard GNR fan so I could go on about this for hours (just ask Spoon...he knew me way back when), but I'll have to disagree with you guys on this one.

I always thought Don't Cry captured a lot more raw emotion than November Rain did. I guess each of the songs try to capture different moods, so that probably makes a difference. And November Rain certainly has its moments as an emotional ballad (Slash did some better solos, but they're few and far between). I guess at times it felt overproduced to me...too many layers, maybe. Don't Cry always just resonated a little more with me.

I saw the video for Paradise City the other night on VH1 Classic...I forgot how good that song was, too. That's the amazing thing about the Appetite for Destruction album to me. It's almost 20 years old, but they could release it today and it would still sell just as many copies as it did then.

I like "Don't Cry" better as well. "november rain" was too grandiose and indulgent for my tastes. You could make that case for "Don't Cry" as well, but it just never rubbed me that way.
