Then I would suggest you get your eyes checked, because blowing 800x600 up to a 1080 display should look roughly like blurry ***.

I disagree. I think the quality of visuals is dictated by the art style rather than simply a high resolution. There was a point in about mid 2000's where games just started looking good. Take a look at a game like Serious Sam 2 from 2005. Hell, I thought Serious Sam 1 Second Encounter (2002) looked good. Not going to include Deus Ex (2000) because that still wasn't good enough, imo. Anyway, I played both SS games stretched out on a big TV not so long ago and was more than happy. I don't think anyone should complain about 1080. I see people brag about their blown up resolution settings and I'm always confused why it matters so much. PS3 games are at 1080 and look great. Some are even only 720 and still look great. Doesn't mean technology shouldn't improve, but I don't think anyone should complain about 1080. I'll even include this: Uncharted 1, which I believe runs in 1080, has some awfully bad looking characters, especially the women. They are very detailed and still look like hell. The rest of the game looks great. Point being, it's not the resolution, but quality of the art work.

a good comparison would be the PS2 version of Vice City or San Andreas vs a PC version. The PS2 will be stuck at a lower resolution and will be much blurrier. The PC one can be rendered at 16x9 1080 (or even higher I think).

PS2 games generally don't look as good on a big TV. I played about 10-12 of them recently, as I previously said. Well, actually, the game I bought PS2 for, Drakan: Ancient Gates, looked really beautiful due to the art in it. But a game like Resident Evil 4 did not look so good.

Yeah, it's not just the res. I'm assuming (bad) that we're talking about the same games. Bad art is bad art no matter what resolution. But if I have a choice between playing Crysis 3 or Far Cry 3 on a PS3 with res capped out at 1080p, or playing the same game at 2560x1600 (4x3) or 2560x1440 (16:9) that PC option will win out nearly every time.

Besides, a lot of the graphical differences aren't solely about resolution. Much of it comes from things like DX11 and whatnot which are only available on a PC. Current consoles are only as graphically powerful as PCs were about 8-10 years ago, and the 'next gen' consoles are only going to be about as good as PCs were 2-3 years ago.

Hopefully I'll be able to adjust... I just hate moving with keyboard keys. So used to using a joystick.

We are complete opposites. I can't stand trying to control a first- or third-person game with a controller. Give me a keyboard and mouse.

If we were talking about the same screen size, I would of course agree that higher res would be desirable. But if we are talking big screen TV versus small monitor - and I think that's the issue here so let's not lose track of that - then I say screw the resolution and let me play on the HUGE fricken set. 27 inch vs 65 inch. I mean, whatever. If you'd rather play small but more detailed, that's you. I'm saying I would go for the size and that I am happy with PS3's 1080.

I was going to play my video games today, but I've been playing bass all day since the time I got up and it's 9PM now, all except for eating a few times, burning 3 CDs, and talking here. And I wonder why I have so many unplayed games. :(

Is being a musician 'work'? I suppose. Also, a whole lot of fun. My urge to play bass is usually stronger than to play video games, however.

I started writing video game reviews for a friend of my brother. The site launched June 1st, so we're trying to build it up.

This is pretty interesting about how the Xbox One's used game/DRM has no real legal precedent

"The facts of a 1996 case regarding EULA's are so out of date we might as well be debating whether or not tyrannosaurs have a right to eat leftovers of a stegosaurus left back a pack of velociraptors."

I'm trying to remember exactly, but wasnt Stegosaurus a jurassic period dinosaur, and the others were cretaceous?

honestly with the games that were shown off at the event I think the Wii U looks like the best "new" system to buy over the next 18 months.
