Then I would suggest you get your eyes checked, because blowing 800x600 up to a 1080 display should look roughly like blurry ***.
I disagree. I think the quality of visuals is dictated by the art style rather than simply a high resolution. There was a point in about mid 2000's where games just started looking good. Take a look at a game like Serious Sam 2 from 2005. Hell, I thought Serious Sam 1 Second Encounter (2002) looked good. Not going to include Deus Ex (2000) because that still wasn't good enough, imo. Anyway, I played both SS games stretched out on a big TV not so long ago and was more than happy. I don't think anyone should complain about 1080. I see people brag about their blown up resolution settings and I'm always confused why it matters so much. PS3 games are at 1080 and look great. Some are even only 720 and still look great. Doesn't mean technology shouldn't improve, but I don't think anyone should complain about 1080. I'll even include this: Uncharted 1, which I believe runs in 1080, has some awfully bad looking characters, especially the women. They are very detailed and still look like hell. The rest of the game looks great. Point being, it's not the resolution, but quality of the art work.
