US Government Debt $54 Trillion and Rising....

Postby Paul Baxter on Thu Oct 16, 2008 8:35 am

Here's the hard economic truth that no one wants to talk about, let alone even do anything about. This is what our socialist "nanny" state has given us:

Socialist nanny state? That's a good one. Wasting less money on the military and using it instead for education might actually help.

Don't worry, though, as we can see these days: capitalism works.

Yes, that's right, a socialist "nanny" state. That is what the USA has sadly devolved into. As for wasting money, did you even watch the video clip in my post? As the video clip outlines, the US Government has $53 trillion in UNFUNDED payment obligations (actually, it's now $54 trillion and rising). Of this $53 trillion in unfunded obligations, more than 90% are for social entitlement programs. So, it has very little to do with military spending.

You have it the other way around. The US spends more money per student yet has nothing to show for it.

It must be nice to sit in your cozy little civilian world throwing around comments like that. Wasting money on the military? So the money myself and my brothers and sisters in the military get paid for our hard work, our blood, sweat, and tears, is a waste?

that got lost in the news the next day....9/11/01

Cynthia Mckinney didnt forget about it, she asked Rummy about it and he said "............Um.....I forgot what the question was"

The U.S. military is bigger than the next 22 countries COMBINED. Don't you think there is a slight chance that a little bit of the money spent on the military could be used for education, shoring up our collapsing infrastructure, alternative energy R&D, etc?

It would certainly make more sense than wasting the blood, sweat and tears (mainly blood) of young Americans in Iraq in the name of free enterprise. Oops, I mean "freedom", sorry.

I agree that Mckinney is a little out there but honestly, where's the tax payer money?

In 2001, the Pentagon lost 2.1 Trillion dollars. In 2003, they did a little better and only lost 1 Trillion.

Military waste under fire
$1 trillion missing -- Bush plan targets Pentagon accounting

WHAT HAPPENED TO $1 TRILLION?

Though Defense has long been notorious for waste, recent government reports suggest the Pentagon's money management woes have reached astronomical proportions. A study by the Defense Department's inspector general found that the Pentagon couldn't properly account for more than a trillion dollars in monies spent. A GAO report found Defense inventory systems so lax that the U.S.

Army lost track of 56 airplanes, 32 tanks, and 36 Javelin missile command launch-units

So i guess the money that was spent on defense IS accounted for, it was spent on planes, tanks, and missiles....but where are the planes, tanks, and missiles??
