I can't stomach Sharp Edge prices anymore. Although, truth be told, Mad Mex isn't a whole lot better when not on happy hour.

I'd never consider Sharp Edge outside of Happy Hour. This one in Peters is basically begging for people to come, so they have wing specials twice a week and a late night special that starts at 10. I usually get out of there full of wings and belgian beers for under $30.

Of all the bars in Pittsburgh I hung out in this year, sharp edge is my favorite

Had this tonight. I agree with your assessment. I like my stouts a littls smoother.

Split a bottle with a coworker and loved it. Medium body, complex spices. Good stuff.

Is it malty/floral/bitter at all? I have a hard time with Christmas beer that is heavy on spice...

Ballast Point Imperial Porter. Very good. Coffee and vanilla balance the bitter and 10% abv quite well.

It has a nice bitter finish to it. Moderate malt upfront. What I like about the spice is that it's not heavy. There are alot of different spices, but the right amount. It's more complex than just the cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. There is vanilla, ginger, and even notes of fig and plum. It's difficult to describe because it's rich without being overly spiced or sweet. If you can find a bottle (or 6 pack) get it. If you hate it, I'll gladly take the extra off your hands. :fist:

Thanks! I'm a total beer geek. When I met my fiancé, I was glad to see he was a bit of a beer geek too. Now we have 7 cases of beer in our apartment and are saving an aged 120 min IPA for our wedding night.

Tried the Barbãr Winter Bok last night. A good Belgian Strong Dark Ale. Thought it smelled most strongly of sour cherries -- along the lines of Troegs Mad Elf. Dark fruits the predominant flavor, some cherry flavor as it warmed. Slight maltiness/toffee in the finish. It is brewed with honey and the honey is really the interesting flavor. I bet some find it to be odd and cloying. I don't mind it; in fact, I have to think about the sweetness being honey to realize that its honey. Its 8% (low end for BSDA) and you can't taste the alcohol one bit, which is also true of the standard Barbãr Honey Blonde (also 8%).

If you like Troegs Mad Elf, I think you'll probably like this unless you find the honey objectionable.

Just picked up Dogfish Head Chicory Stout. The 'bartender' at Whole Foods gave me a sample since they had it on tap. Yummy.

Gonna be a good night...or afternoon.

Anyone try the Mystic Bridge IPA before?

I had a six this week and it wasn't a tradional IPA, but it was pretty good.

Wacky. That's my hometown (well, right next door); Mystic, that is. Not Pawcatuck where the brewer is.

I heard mystic has good Pizza :)

Actually I used to drive through that area (on I-95) quite frequently when I was working in Boston and Woonsocket and headed back to Pittsburgh on the weekends. It's nice up there.

You are from Mystic? I was at the CGA, spent a lot of time in Stonington, and golfed many a round at the crappy golf course at the Groton sub base. Spent a lot of time in that area.

Isn't the CGA in Cape May? Or am I mistaken?
Just looked it up on the web. I don't know why I thought the CGA was in Cape May...

Extremely strong ale (9.9%), but it is quite good. Definitely has touches of an IPA, touches of a brown ale.

This wasn't released last year due to lagunitas not having brewing capacity but it's such a great beer.

New Castle Ale, Southern Tier 2X Stout, Anchor Steam Ale, and about 12 Straubs have put me at about 2 times the amount of calories I need according to My Fitness Pal.

The sausage links and French toast from this morning didn't help much either.
