outside of them, its pilseners and hefes for me. the rest is just too much for me to say i really "enjoyed" it.

kenny the kangaroo has come a long ways in terms of being able to enjoy beers, but ipa's for the most part can be a bit too over the top

I had a 7th Son Saison this weekend. It had an aftertaste not unlike that of celery.

some of the saison beers get interesting because of the temp they're brewed at. some yeasts put off some interesting tastes when they're brewed hot.

i don't understand people that like IPAs and i've made unkind comparisons between pumpkin beer and cat vomit in the past, but i don't think that qualifies as a lecture.

though in conversations about mich ultra or budweiser, i'll admit to being an arrogant beer snob.

I routinely buy IC Light, so I'm not going to lecture anyone.

That said, IPAs suck.

I thoroughly enjoy IPAs and saisons and hefes and pilsners and porters and stouts and pumpkin stuff and well... i suppose just beer in general.

also, i have been known to buy miller high life or MGD as an all day beer.

My path to hops was far from direct, and I still don't know how anyone can be an instant fan of IPAs, but I at least have some interest in trying different IPAs now. That said, I love sours and wild ales and find it shocking that others are not instant fans of those styles, so I guess it is a matter of different strokes for different folks.

I still have a fair amount of disdain for the IBU chaser IPAs. I don't really get the point or the talent required to just make something taste extremely bitter to the point of overpowering every other flavor. Balanced IPAs and DIPAs are much more enjoyable for me now than a few years ago, though. Victory Hop Devil comes to mind as a pretty hoppy beer that I think features the hops in the right way and has a nice overall balance with some solid maltiness. My preference is still to drink beers that are not hop-forward but rather utilize hops to dry the finish and increase drinkability. The high carbonation (generally), spiciness, and dryness of saisons are what really draws me to them. That combo seems to allow a more medium-bodied beer to be delivered in an exceedingly drinkable manner. That's a recipe for success in my book!

Precisely. Not all IPAs are the same. It's all about balance.

I'm not a huge fan of overly bitter IPAs, but dry hopped stuff with that nice floral aroma and good mouth feel, it doesn't get better than that for me.

I'm heading to the Boston area this weekend, more specifically Salem. Any good beers up that way I should keep an eye out for?

Just bought a bottle of whole hog pumpkin ale. Wow...very very good. Pumking edges it but this is an excellent pumpkin beer. As close to drinking a 7.5% pumpkin pie as you can get.

Had a Greenport Black Duck Porter at LaGuardia tonight. Pretty good. Nice punch, a bit smoky, clean dry finish.

just a terrible selection of beers in Niagara Falls and just about everything was $9 per. Niagara Falls brewery line has some of the worst beers I've ever had. Rickards white was the best thing I could drink up there.
