I'm coming over to sample with you.

Spoiler:
although I already know the winner.

I assume I know it to, but should be fun.

The place I went last weekend had Alchemy Hour on the beer list... they were out and I was disappointed.

I had the same experience with my local beer place (shameless plug again)

Anyone know of any really good bottle shops or bars with yuppy bottle selection in the Alexandria/DC area?

I stopped at Rick's a couple times, it's a pretty solid bottle shop

RFD in Chinatown near the Verizon Center has a good selection of bottles. I want to say 200+.

EDIT: Oh you're not looking for a bar.

A bar is doable if they have bottles that I couldn't otherwise get. Chances of having real white whale type of stuff is better at a bar than a bottle shop.

I looked up RFD, it apparently has 300+ bottles there.

http://www.lovethebeer.com/rfd.html

RFD is the sister bar to DC’s legendary 53 year old Brickskeller and offers over 30 beers on tap, including a cask-conditioned ale and constantly rotating selection of rare beers and specialty handcrafts. That extensive list is further expanded by RFD's 300-plus inventory of bottled beers from around the world.

That looks like a cool place. Unfortunately, (for my taste) that bottle list looks like about 285 out of the most obvious 300 beers that one could offer.

I am going to the Timbers/D.C. United game in a few weeks and want to nab at least one beer off the wishlist while I'm in a more heavily distributed area.

And here we go. Granville Moore's. Reserve & Limited Stock including: Fantome Noel 2012, St Feuillien Saison, The Breury Tart of Darkness.

It really wasn't a close matchup. I started with the Alchemy Hour. Very good. Then had the Heady Topper. Sensational. It is much smoother and more well balanced than Alchemy Hour. And that's no knock against Alchemy Hour, it's just that Heady Topper is so good. Even better than I'd remembered it.

Had a Pius Monk from CB last night. Liked it. Went well with the beef dish at dinner.

For Eismann and the other malt heads, I had the Goose Island Pepe Nero last night. It is technically a black saison, but the spice/pepper is extremely subtle, if you can even pick it up at all. That leaves you with a malt heavy, highly carbonated, nice medium body with dry finish beer. I think it ends up being a more drinkable schwarzbier. I would definitely recommend it for those that chase that sort of thing.

Good call, K-man. Oddly enough, I was at Jiggle last night and saw that one. They had it on display with two other GI brands that had people's names or something. Will pick it up next time I'm there.

Wound up getting St. Bernadus Prior 8 and Troubadour Obscura. Both really good. Seemed very similar to me. Caramel hoppy but not too much so. Would get both again.

Do the Allagash fans here recommend the White?
I stopped at the Piggly Wiggly (which generally has a poor beer selection) yesterday and they had a few six packs.

Allagash White is an incredible beer, and I am not even a fan of wits so much. MUST try it.

Just had my first Rye of the Tiger IPA, outstanding.

Had a Flying Dog Atlantic Lager sitting in my fridge, so I broke it out. Little too hoppy for my tastes

I lied before. Jiggle had Pere Jacques, along with Sofie and I think Mathilda. Not Pepe Nero. Although that was just display. Might have had it elsewhere.

Had Epic's Big Bad Baptist and Thornbridge/Terrapin's Coalition strong ale yesterday. The Epic was incredible.
