I now realize that Fat Tire doesn't really make it to PA, but has anyone tried this?

Rolle Bolle

A delightful summer ale for easy sipping and a classic Belgian yard game for easy enjoyment, Rolle Bolle is how we roll. Brewed with monk fruit and soursop, this beer pours a brilliant blonde, with a fluffy, white head. Earthy and tropical tones carry the aroma and the taste follows accordingly. Rolle Bolle’s hint of tartness is backed with the citrus bite of Cascade and Centennial hops. Oats add some creaminess to the mouthfeel, and it finishes dry and clean. Time to get in the yard, crack a bottle and start rolling.

Flavor: Mild malty and fruity sweetness with a hint of tartness and a bitter nip at the end.
Visual: Pale sunshine yellow; bright white foam and lacing.

What I'm really asking: is it just some "Summered up" IPA or is there more to it than that?

I was not impressed

I'm not surprised. It was closer to a Wit than a Hefe to my tastes, but I enjoy those while you seem to not.

Weihenstephaner is perfection. I got spoiled.

The church brew was certainly drinkable, but i would describe the taste as "thin". Not terrible by any means. Certainly better than the Shiner hefe.

I would never put that on any of my best lists, but it was very drinkable. I would say that citrus was the dominant flavor. I enjoyed it more than a lot of the beers I've had there in my pasts few trips, save for the Hoptoberfest. Calling it a hefe may be misleading though as I would say it was closer to Hoeegarden than it was to Weihenstephaner or Franziskaner. If you like Wits though, it is worth a try.

I finally made it to the Beer Market on the North Shore over the weekend. I thought they had a better selection and better prices than the Sharp Edge, so that's a good thing. In my group, we ordered two bottles that the waitress poured at the table...and she flubbed both of them, leaving the glasses about 1/2 full of foam. To her credit, she recognized the error of her ways and poked fun at herself (which also allowed my single friend to get a little flirting going), but I'm not sure about the staff there given this experience and that mentioned by Kraftster previously.

If you see Third Shift amber lager real cheap and figure "hmmm, at $6, I'll give it a try"......don't.

Post-purchase research indicates that it's made by:

@MWB and other southerners, any thoughts on these breweries? All are bringing beers to Pittsburgh Beerfest tomorrow. I'm trying to make myself a list right now so I can go in with a plan tomorrow.

Thomas Creek (Greenville, SC)
O'Dempsey's (Atlanta, GA)
Bottle Tree Beer Co (Tyron, NC)

Also Duck Rabbit and Terrapin, which I know some from.

@IPA folks, weren't some of you raving about Ballast Point Sculpin IPA? That'll be there. I'll have to make sure to try it.

Oh man....have fun Kraftster. Sculpin IPA is arguably the best American IPA in the country. It's just that good (I love hyperbole, but I sincerely mean that here).

The only thing I have had from Terrapin is Hopsecutioner, which is a good IPA but far from my favorite.

And lest I forget, Duck Rabbit's barrel-aged porter. It's probably their best offering, although their normal porter is good too.

Sculpin is in such demand they now offer it in cans. Great example of what a West Coast IPA should taste like. It's also rising in price due to demand.

Look for Hangar 24 and/or Bootleggers to make their way east. Both have great distribution channels and the $$$ to make it.

Bell's Oberon (I think it's in your wheelhouse)

Torpedo IPA (figuring you have had it)

Sumpin Sumpin

Bear Republic Red Rocket (just had it tonight, one of the best red ales on the market)

Great Lakes is awesome

Great Divide's darker stuff.

Enjoy.

Yeah, Oberon is solid. I'm anxious to get to try Two Hearted now that I seem to be tolerating hops a bit better. I haven't had Torpedo.

Sumpin' Sumpin' is really good, and Lagunitas in general have always seemed to balance their beers really well imo. Liked some of their hoppier stuff when I hated hops.

I had a Bear Republic rye beer recently that was good. Have never been a huge Racer 5 fan, but I'll definitely give their red a try.

The Yeti stuff they have tomorrow is making my late-night list. ;)
