Sorry, not much help. I haven't had any of the three you listed. I've had some of the Duck Rabbit stuff (milk stout and amber) and Terrapin before, but just find both to be okay.

It should be a lot of fun. I was really, really hoping that Ommegang would have Fleur de Houblon. Would have crushed that ish.

Wow, quite a list. Ones I would recommend most:

-21st Am is a very good IPA. Kind of hoppy though.
-Definitely try the Bells Two Hearted. This has become my session beer this summer. It's not overly hoppy at all.
-Those Founders are all great (although I haven't had the Rubaeus. Double might be a bit too hoppy for you though.
-Good Island IPA is very good.
-Great Divide and Great Lakes... have yet to have a beer from either that I don't like. The Denver PA is lighter, but I prefer the Titan IPA. Excellent. Yeti stuff is excellent.
-Avoid Leinenkugel
-Rogue Chipotle is interesting. Definitely a heat kick to it. Dead Guy is great.
-Southern Tier Back Burner is my favorite barley wine. Not a huge bw fan, but this one is tasty. Hard to go wrong with any of that ST list. The Live is lighter than the IPA stuff, but still nice.
-Both Duck Rabbits on there are just meh for me.
-Uinta Summer is good. Nice and light.

I brewed beer once with randy o'dempsey. He brought along a bunch of year old your black heart. His beers are all really good, his ipa being the best IMO. The RIS is a bit thin but still really good, especially since it is pretty cheap compared to other RISs. They just released their pale ale which I haven't had yet. That terrapin hop karma is also my favorite India brown. I like it way more than dfh's.

Brooklyn Summer Ale.

Probably would be a good beer for the beach or after cutting the grass, but leaves a lot to be desired in the taste department.

The first Beer out of that Brewery that I've ever not liked.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!

Postby Kraftster on Mon Jul 29, 2013 12:31 am

Beerfest was a good time. Good thing I made my own list because, despite what was promised according to the website, lists were not given out to everyone. Perhaps more importantly, maps were not given out either. I guess they had to move things around a lot because of the weather, so I'm not sure if that contributed to the lack of a map, but that was frustrating and based upon there being no list, I don't know that I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt on the weather being the cause.

So far as I can recall, I had:
Naked Le Petomane
Brooklyn Sirachi Ace
Green Flash Saison Diego
Green Flash Le Freak
North Coast PranQster
North Coast Brother Theloneus
Bottle Tree Belgian Blonde
Great Lakes Silver and Gold Imperial Pilsner
Bells Quinannon Falls
Bells Deb's Red
Bells Two Hearted
Ballast Point Sculpin IPA
Ballast Point
Arcadia B. Craft
Helltown Idol Hands
Finch's Secret Stache
Goose Island IPA
Lavery Belfast Black Porter
Yard's Saison
Unibroue Blanche de Chamblay
Founders Rubaeus
Southern Tier Live

What stood out for me:

Bells is such a solid brewery. The Deb's Red was very good, lager was solid, and two hearted :thumb:
I quite enjoyed the Green Flash offerings (also ended up getting a Green Flash Rayon Vert at the bar during the postgame).
The Finch's milk stout was really good. It was like a drinkable Southern Tier Creme Brule.
Lavery porter was quite good. First of their offerings that I've enjoyed.
Both Ballast Point beers were really good.
Helltown is going to get pretty big, I bet. They were out of the BSPA that I wanted to try, but I didn't even mind the double ipa. Seemed to be pretty well balanced.
Founders Rubaeus was one of the VIP beers. It was a very good fruit beer (raspberry).

Couldn't find Lagunitas, Avery, Ommegang, Natian, and Bear Republic, which was disappointing.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!

I ended up getting a list and somewhat of a map on Friday. It didn't show what sections were in a certain location, but it say which beers were grouped together. Between the sampling glass and my phone (since I had to log everything on untappd), I didn't have much time for the list.

Positives:
* lines didn't seem excessively long for the number of people involved. Friday's session was around 3,500 but I heard one guy talking about they went over the projected number of tickets. Not sure if that meant they only projected x out of 3,500 or if they projected 3,500 and went above it. I don't think I ever waited more than 2 minutes for a beer. The 3,500 number is based on a conversation on their facebook page, which was 3,500 available tickets on Friday and 5k on Saturday.
* lots of stuff that I never had before. My one big fear was that this would be a local brewery/macrocraft-fest sprinkled in with some stuff that wasn't common. That was about the furthest thing from what it was, although they somehow did sneak a Coors Light tap inside.
* price. I paid $35 for a VIP ticket. Most tasting sessions go for almost 2x that price and don't have half the selection. Easily the best deal going for a beerfest that I've seen.
*quick pour tables. Granted this wasn't where the good stuff was usually located, but if you were looking for something quick and more than 2 ounces, this was the place to go and there were at least 7 or 8 tables like this throughout Stage AE.

Negatives:
* Limited amounts of certain beers, and maybe even limited isn't the right word. I know this is minor, but there were several brewers that brought beer and were out of certain ones by the first hour. Considering there were almost 300 different beers there, I can get over this rather easily.
* Since I had a VIP ticket, there were supposed to be 10 additional beers available that weren't available to the rest of the crowd. I didn't see any of them, nor did anybody else that I asked.
* $7 for parking? Boooooo.

Overall, had a good time and will go again when they have Winterfest. I'll give it an A-, only dinging them slightly for the issue with the VIP beers.

Couldn't find Lagunitas, Avery, Ommegang, Natian, and Bear Republic, which was disappointing.

Ommegang and Avery were inside, almost as soon as you walked in. Bear Republic I think was in the middle of the row of tables on teh upper deck.

For those in the North Hills, Hal's (on Babcock) purchased the pool hall that was next door and has turned it into a bottle shop. Very nice selection. The mixed sixers/individual 12 ozs seem pretty pricey, but the bomber/750ML selection and pricing seems pretty solid -- it will have to be to compete with the Shaler/Glenshaw Giant Eagle. Still, the mixed sixer option and better overall cooler selection than GE means that I will stop here a fair amount.
