I feel like the hockey season is finally revving up, so I picked the Brooklyn Octoberfest.
I assume it's good?

I went through a case pretty fast last year, it definitely wasn't as bold as others, but I found it incredibly smooth and refreshing

Bought a bomber of Southern Teir Warlock for the hockey game. Wow. This is so much better than pumking.

The Vampire Slayer is pretty good. I'm not a huge imperial stout fan, so the tamer liquor tones are nice. More coffee coming through.

Lavery won gold at GABF for its Liopard Oir Farmhouse Saison (bretted saison). Hadn't had it for a couple years but had it recently and it was very good. Nice to see a PA brewery score in that category!

I liked the S. Smith Oatmeal Stout so much, I decided to get a bottle of the Organic Chocolate Stout. Trying it this weekend.

The chocolate stout is pretty good, but definitely a "dessert" beer

headed back to the beer distributor tomorrow. my plan...

-case of dogfish 60 minute (only $37)
-case of dogfish miles davis b****es brew (very excited about this one)
-case of russian river damnation
-maybe a case of founders old curmudgeon

...and there's an outside chance of going on in a case of 120 minute with someone else...and they also have mad elf in stock at $60 a case. i'm tempted.

my basement is going to get crowded fast.

two things:

1. I'm kegging my pliny the elder clone tonight. Very excited to try it. It smells fantastic.
2. Heading to Philly at the end of this month. Staying at a hotel near the airport, but will still be able to drive. Are there any breweries in/near philly that have good food as well?

I'm looking forward to trying the Old Curmudgeon. Randy says that it should be coming in sometime in the near future.

i think it's really smooth and mild. belgian dark ales are my favorite by far, but it's nice to throw in a golden ale every once in a while, and i prefer this to golden monkey, for instance.

$61.99 for the case. well worth it.

I agree. Not overly sweet or overwhelmingly chocolate. Nice and subtle. But a "dessert" beer. I do like it.

Yards is really the brewery that sells their beer in stores that I can think of. They don't really have good food though. There are a bunch of places that brew their own beer and have decent food though. I suggest Iron Hill (Chestnut Hill), Triumph (Old City), and Manayunk Brewery. I also found this link of local breweries: http://www.visitphilly.com/articles/phi ... aft-beers/

Never been to Flying Fish but will have to check that out. The Vault in Yardley had a Sweet Potato Ale that was very good but their food menu was small and mostly appetizers, sandwiches, and flat bread pizzas.

Received an official Southern Tier Pumking goblet as a gift. Happen to have a bomber ready to go. To rim (cinnamon and sugar) or not to rim?

Had Ska Mole Stout tonight. Interesting. Brewed after the mole sauce, and could definitely taste the notes of chocolate on the tongue and a strong pepper after-taste. Glad I tried it, but wouldn't be something I'd drink on a regular basis. Followed it up with a Titan IPA, which is delicious.

Beer brewed with any kind of hot peppers just turns my stomach the wrong way. One of the few beers (and I mean few) that I can't drink.

Not a strong pepper flavor, but it is there. Less than Rogue Chipotle, for sure.

I have only had one "pepper" beer and it was someone's homebrew... it was the worst beer I ever tasted. Granted, not fair to the style probably, but doesn't seem like something I'd like anyway.

Back in the day, Cave Creek was a good on-a-dare king of beer. Pretty mild body, jalapeno definitely had a presence.
