Sadness indeed, kinda surprised about the sales, that was a superb oatmeal stout.

Leffe brown is good

That's what I got to drink for the house work I've been doing the past two weekends. The Brown and the Porter exceeded my expectations. Two Hearted is one of my staples, but i'd be in bad shape if I were drinking that all day and working. I needed something to break it up.

shmenguin wrote:i noticed something very strange from saturday's beer run...

in jersey, i can get a case of st bernardus abt 12 for $108. and this is just from some regular beer store. but i go to a distributor in philly and the same case is $135. and this price is consistent across multiple distributors.

another example...if i bought 24, 11 oz bottles of Rochefort 10 INDIVIDUALLY from the same place in jersey, I'd spend $168. but if i bought a case of it in philly, it's $199.

what gives? is there something going on in pennsylvania where they have to mark up belgian imports to this insane degree?

follow up...i got a case of rochefort in some random store in south jersey over the weekend. it cost me $134 - which was $65 cheaper than the beer distributor in philly. that's bonkers.

Anyone seen Brew Dogs yet? I caught the San Diego episode with the chili and seaweed added to the beer they made while on a round trip from San Diego to LA. They had Greg Koch from Stone with them during the journey. There is an upcoming episode in Philly and Seattle.

I guess they take a local brewer and try to add a local flavor to the brewer's beer.

anyone have any tips on sort of "resetting" you palate before drinking a good beer? lately i've had a few instances where for one reason or another, my taste buds weren't as receptive as usual while drinking some really good stuff.

interesting stuff. thanks, guys.

i'm also struggling with getting my beer down to the appropriate temperature. the warmer the better for some of my stuff, but i don't really want to wait a half hour to start drinking what i pull out of the fridge.

had founders breakfast stout tonight at dinner. i think it's better from the bottle into a glass than draft, but that might be the stuffy nose talking.

I had the opposite feeling and I tried a few from the glass and last on bottle. The founders bastard was good too, worked it off walking kids home in the wagon. 60s in novemebr is awesome!

That double trouble ipa makes me want to put it head to head with headhunter, both Damn fine

Ditto. I looked at temp controlled wine bottle chillers, but most require horizontal bottle storage, I think.

I was thinking the same thing, but I don't think they'd hold that many bottles. You'd have to disassemble it and build your own shelving or something.
