Are there even any barrios in Pittsburgh?

Spoiler:
Predictably depressing. That being said...

When they first jumped the fence and tried to escape from that barrio at the end, Gyllenhal shot that guy that was waiting in the car. At that point, why would they not dump his body out of the car, get in the car, and peel out while they make the call back to dispatch? Why keep running down the street when you have a perfectly operable vehicle there?

i dont use the word "barrio" quite enough.

Should you be using "barrio" in your area?

no, but what does that matter. its a fun word.

According to this map (orange dots represent hispanic) I would say there are not enough to constitute a barrio...

End of Watch was very good. That being said it should have ended with

Spoiler:
Jake G's charchter at his partners funeral, he gets up there.. says he was my brother or whatever he said, and boom fade to black. Depressing yes, but powerful. The tacked on happy **** in the car after that made the ending totally not work for me.

I never had interest in seeing End of Watch, but maybe I should check it out.

Spoiler:
I agree. At that moment, it was like getting punched in the gut. I also think it could have ended with both of them dying. I thought it was a gritty tribute to the officers that patrol that beat on a daily basis, but the end kind of sent an idealized message that wasn't in line with the rest of the movie.

Those maps had been posted on this board before somewhere. I just remember there being a distinct lack of orange and green on the map. :)

I have seen actual origins once and it was fine. But the version with the incomplete cg edits that I downloaded is better. A lot of wire frame scenes and such. Thoroughly enjoyable.

i read about it then found the last 20 minutes streaming somewhere. i didn't find it as troubling as you, but maybe because i didn't see any other parts of the movie so the age of these girls didn't really resonate with me. from what i gather, the parts i didn't see are horribly executed in both construction and delivery. like amateur film making bad. though, honestly, the last bit was pretty well done as far as carrying out what was intended. and "the big reveal" would have been a legit "holy ****!!" moment had i not known about it and watched the rest of the movie leading up to it.

I think you need to seek counseling if the end of that movie didn't disturb you.

I really can't come to hard at you because I watched the film in it's entirety so I'm not even sure what that makes me. Fiction or not, the last 20 minutes of that piece of trash should be thrown into a pit with Sodom.

but again, i think that if i watched the whole thing, my reaction would be a bit different. the first hour seems to have established over and over that these are just kids. i didn't make that connection watching the last scenes out of context. i couldn't really tell how old she was supposed to be.

I just read a plot synopsis of it, but it ends before the end. I'm guessing things don't end well for Megan and/or Amy.

To finish out the winter I am working on my own self imposed classic film festival. I am trying to broaden my cinema appreciation beyond Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer, so I thought I'd go back to some classics that I've been recording on TMC and Retroplex and requested from the library.

Mr Smith Goes to Washington
Casablanca
Mr Deeds Goes to Town
Singin in the Rain
Psycho
Rear Window
Vertigo
Chinatown
Gone with the Wind
Ben Hur

So far I've watched Casablanca, Mr Smith, and Vertigo

Fourteen years old. Yeah, you need to watch the whole movie for the last 25 minutes to have the same impact.

I like extreme cinema. I still think Martyrs is a super important film on a lot of levels. Hell, even A Serbian Film is well crafted and the messed up stuff is at least intended to be somewhat symbolic.
But I can't wrap my head around this. I'm mad that it exists and if that's the sole purpose this movie exists to piss people off, then mission accomplished I guess?

I guess I give it credit for being an effective movie

Spoiler:
I had to fast forward through the scene where Amy was getting raped. I couldn't watch that for 3 minutes. And the damn barrel. Yeah screw this movie
