Saw Pacific Rim not too long ago. Was by far the worst movie of the year. Just hilariously dumb.

Totally agree. Don't know what all the hype was about.

But wasn't it fun? It was giant robots and monsters fighting, so you already knew it was going to be ridiculous going in... I had a blast with it, even if it wasn't a good movie.

I've heard only good things about Pacific Rim if you go in knowing what you are going to get. Robots and stuff blowing up. It's not meant to really have a plot of any kind I don't think. Just explosions and mindless diversion for 90 minutes.

Tonight's Netflix movie(s):

The ABC's of Death
Possibly Carrie or Rosemary's Baby to follow.

The basic premise: 26 directors were told to pick a word from a given letter of the alphabet and told to make a tale about death around the word.

Apparently it's a foreign film with subtitles (actually it's a bunch of different nationalities).

On 'E' right now. Some pretty strange ideas through the first 4 letters

All I have to say is "WTF Japan"

Decided to go a different route. Watching a documentary about the Amityville house. Basically an hour and a half long interview with Daniel Lutz.

Blue Jasmine: very good movie, but don't expect any lighthearted easy-going flick like, say, Midnight in Paris (despite the fact that Louis CK and Andrew Dice Clay get top billing). It's actually far more a psychological drama than a comedy. The closest comparison I could make: I'd say it's the modern "Streetcar Named Desire" meets the Bernie Madoff scandal.

There are some laughs at the beginning, but as you actually learn about the story, the movie gets quite heavy at times. I'd say it's a film that will be appreciated the most by the older crowd - the theater was sold out, and I think the median age looked like 45-50.

Cate Blanchett is outstanding. Sally Hawkins and Bobby Cannavale are strong in the main supporting roles. Dice is actually very good. Louis CK, despite top billing, has only a small side-role.

Definitely worth recommending, if you are up for a quality 'thinking' movie. I would not recommend it as a romantic date movie (unlike, say, Midnight in Paris).

The wife and I watched Citizen Kane today. Wow...I know it's always rated as the "best movie ever made", but I thought it absolutely lived up to the hype. What blew me away was how it doesn't even feel dated, with the fact it was filmed 72 years ago. Orson Welles was way ahead of his time, and it shows with the cinematography, etc.

Spoiler:
It's probably the most sympathetic I've ever felt for a movie character in this kind of role. Kane alluded to the fact that he wishes he never came upon such money and fame as a young man. Seeing his childhood sled, Rosebud, incinerated at the end was incredibly poignant. Awesome film.

Admittedly, the one annoying part I found about the movie was:

Spoiler:
Susan Alexander Kane's character. I found her voice incredibly annoying and whiny, much like the abominable Kate Capshaw in Temple of Doom
