Star trek into darkness was pretty good. I think I was confused watching the first one, but this was cool. I still don't understand why spock talks to his future self, is that fan service to nemoy generation? Seems to conflict his morals/characteristics in the new flicks?

Also with that said, I think jj Abrahams will make a good star wars, but I feel like we deserve a great one, he comes across as too safe and conventional.

it was most assuredly an appeasement to the fan boy contingency.

that being said, Abrams will do star wars proud. That also being said, I would like just about anything new from the universe and be happy.

Great line

Yeah, The World's End was solid. Definitely looking forward to watching it again whenever it comes out on video.

And my thoughts are: Decent. Nothing to write home about. Felt like there was some squandered potential for it to be a great movie hidden in there somewhere.

Saw The Family over the weekend. 5/10, OK, but not great. Michelle Pfeiffer still brings it. Funny scene where Deniro's character has to discuss one of Deniro's actual films.

Also, it was produced by one Ron Burkle, co-owner of the Penguins.

I liked it. I guess what stood out to me was how real it seemed. The characters all seemed to have pretty average complexion and body types and also seemed to really talk and act like how 18 year olds are (the alcoholism was a bit excessive though).

I thought the first half was great, and was confused by the second half when I first saw it. After watching it again the 2nd half really disappointed me. Too many plot holes.

Short Term 12. This was a really good movie. I have absolutely no idea why it was only playing in one theater (Southside Works) and for only one week, and is now gone. Definitely one of the best movies I've seen so far this year.

I'm spending most of my day tomorrow doing a formula car racing track day thing, and then it's off to the cinema to see Rush (opens in L.A. today)

I'm reading the early reviews and they're all quite positive.

Just learned that the film was made for $45 million; that's incredibly cheap.

This might be the best movie review ever.

5 Reasons the Worst Jaws Movie Is an Underrated Masterpiece
(Warning: Some salty language)

By far my two favorite lines:
But he can't manage to form the correct words around his suffocating horror, so he ends up gibbering out some indecipherable Sphinxian riddle while his face contorts as though he's powering through a shotgun blast of scalding diarrhea.

To be fair, he is actually on the outside of the cage making sure the door is secure, but the visual implication is clear -- he's trapped, and the only way out is through the shark's anus.

Change comes to Hollywood’s famous Chinese Theatre—again
TTomorrow morning, the TCL Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard—formerly Grauman’s Chinese, formerly Mann’s Chinese, but always a Hollywood landmark—will reopen to the public, after being closed since the beginning of May for a $5 million renovation. The initial attraction will be The Wizard Of Oz, presented for the first time in IMAX 3-D. Early fears that the world’s most recognizable movie theater would be converted into some sort of horrible nightclub have proven unfounded: The renovations, overseen by President and COO Alwyn Hight Kushner, are absolutely beautiful. No effort or expense has been spared in preserving the building’s famous architectural details, and restoring long-lost ones. Friday will be a banner day for Elie Samaha and Don Kushner, who bought the theater; for Chinese television manufacturer TCL, which bought the naming rights; and for Warner Bros., which bought distribution rights for MGM’s film library. It will also mark a milestone in the ongoing slow-motion death of celluloid. For the first time in its 86-year history, the TCL Chinese Theatre will not have a film projector in its projection booth.

Be interesting to check out the renos. I haven't been to the Chinese in probably ten years, but it's always a little special seeing a movie there.

One interesting thing about the newest updates is they've converted the auditorium to stadium seating, and in the process they've lost something like 500 seats.
