Sin City 2 is hanging out there for 2014. Marv is apparently in it, so that's good. Not sure what I think of it overall, though.

ive tried watching the hobbit a few times - I just cant get into it.

my friends are going tonight so im trying to watch it again. can someone explain why the hell Gandalf is tied up in this? and why he wants tim Canterbury Bilbo to come with them? and how does he know Bilbo? and why should I root for these dwarves?

as much as I liked the lord of the rings this is my 4th attempt at watching it and im so confused I never make it past this dinner party thing.

Gandalf acknowledges at the beginning of the movie that Bilbo and he have met many years ago.

Gandalf is a wise wizard who sees trouble brewing and assembles the dwarves to help reclaim their mountain. Once reclaimed Thorin Oakenshield becomes king and can unite all the "good" people to battle the forces of evil.

He knows that a small Hobbit will be the best chance to sneak into the mountain to regain the Arekenstone. He recruits Bilbo for this purpose having net him before and knowing he is of good character.

The dwarves represent goodness and justice and the best hope for good.

IIRC from the Appendices of LOTR, Gandalf also knew that if the Dragon sided with the enemy, it could be game over for the good guys... this is one of the reasons he seeks out Thorin to kind of get things rolling. I don't know that they'll touch on that at all in the movies.

Really enjoyed Desolation of Smaug. More exposition of the characters old and new, dome good action scenes, but no major battles. Possibly could've used a touch more dragon. I'm a fan though.

Painfully timed but appropriate place to end the film.

Watched Man of steel with the kids today. I really had a lot of fun with it. The bass on the bluray is pretty much constant for the 2.5 hours, gave my sub a nice work out

The special features on the Alien Quadrilogy set are my favorite of any DVD I own.

I have been reluctant to watch because I think it would be too cheesy

Does anyone use the "Ask Max" feature on Netflix? I've tried a dozen or so times but never end up watching what is suggested.

Cheesy doesn't even begin to describe it. Everything from the concept to the plot to the acting was just too much. I actually enjoyed watching it, but in a I don't have to exert any brain power to watch this way.
