Pfidc made it out to be more depressing than it was...its pretty dark, but i wouldnt call it depressing. Not nice things fefinitely happen. I dont know if id call it a thriller but its not a drama either. Im not good at categorizing things like that though.

Maybe Im more sensitive than you. :D

Spoiler:
if you told me that 45% of the movie was him addressing his staff with a stirring speech mixed with cut shots of his employees yelling "f***" and sticking their middle fingers up, i'd believe you. there was a lot of fat that could have been trimmed (dwarf tossing logistic conversation, anyone?) and it took about 100 minutes to establish conflict (not exaggerating). plus, with anti-heroes, you usually have a walter white thing going on where you hate them, but you still root for them. this guy could go suck a lemon, after he punched his wife in the stomach and crashed his car with his kid in it. i didn't care at all what happened to him eventually.

Spoiler:
I don't think an "anti-hero" narrative was ever even tried to be established. I don't remember the movie ever setting him up in a way that would lead you to root for him, or imply that it wanted you to do so. He was a scumbag all the way through, and yet, just like the audience in the final scene, you're still enraptured by how he was able to do it.

Spoiler:
i think it's implicit with almost any lead character. and the ones you aren't supposed to root for aren't usually so damn charming. the closest analogue i can think of to jordan belfor is patrick bateman :scared:

but point taken. it's more of a spectacle than something that's engaging. and it certainly succeeded on that level. still too long, though - even though "excess" is a major theme.

I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. Took my son because he kept begging me, but I actually enjoyed it.

Pick a damn language, this isn't Firefly.

pretty much agree with this. Based on the trailer, I had a little higher hopes for it. I like how they portrayed death and will be following up the movie with the book which I can see being a lot better.

I saw Captain America again last night (with zero liters of dunkel as opposed to the 3 I had last time) and even though I really liked it Thursday being able to watch it again and notice the set ups and pay offs, I think this is the ^best straight up action movie I've seen since The Raid.

Convienently, The Raid 2 comes out in the area this weekend and its getting great reviews too.

I am in the middle of watching America Hustle... this is NOT a good movie. Just more proof that if it gets nominated for best picture... don't waste your time.

Did not care for Inside llewyn davis. Sure it had the usual great coens cinematography, production and odd side characters, but llewyn davis is such a dick that I had zero interest in his story. It's probably because it feels like it's filmed like a biography and you are waiting to get something from the story, but literally nothing happens besides him being uncivil to everyone he interacts with. For maybe 2 minutes you see him show some type of personality when he feels bad for a cat, but that's about the range. I have no idea how anyone can feel any emotion towards him/his story with him being so depressing and unlikable. When it was over, I felt like a fell asleep and missed a huge chunk of something important in the middle that should have made this movie good.

Spoiler:
I could be wrong about my interpretation, but my thoughts were when Dylan came up at the end it was showing the folk scene was about to change and with that, possibly Llewyns success. To me, that makes sense and gives a certain light to llewyns previous troubles (and dedication to the art), but I still don't want to watch 90 minutes of his troubles only for this reveal. Maybe I'm getting older and my tastes have changed, I probably would have thought this was a masterpiece 10 years ago...

Previews for 22 Jump Street are out. I'll definitely watch it as 21 Jump Street is one of those guilty pleasure movies for me. I think Channing Tatum is hilarious in that sort of role.
