I drive through Sandy devestation on a daily basis.

Shaf's right, this is ridiculous. The Dems still haven't broken their pork addiction. They're the ones who should be ashamed of this bill.

Edit: Let me modify the prior comment, any politician, from either side of the isle, who gorges at the public trough. The Congressman from here on Long Islands South Shore, Peter King, his recent statements are just as repugnant. I know dozens of families who have received FEMA assistance, most making out better with the payouts than the value of what they lost.

A friend recently was showing off his new furnace, paid for with FEMA money. It replaced one that was 30 years old that he'd already gotten quotes on replacing.

So...... a guy getting a new furnace in December/January in that part of the country is your example of pork gone wild?

Please see my post on the previous page. Just because it's called the "Sandy Aid" bill doesn't mean it has to be rushed through Congress post-haste. I know you appreciate this, because of your expressed displeasure at the way the process was followed a couple years ago during the Obamacare stuff.

And it's absolutely ridiculous to think that delaying this bill a few weeks is going to result in untold horror and heartbreak for affected residents. Please. They are getting the help they need, and the cleanup is ongoing.

Alarmed by the high volume of “negative correspondence,” the New York newspaper that published lists of gun owners’ names and addresses has hired private armed guards to man its offices:

Gov Christie makes good points about the lack of time in NJ and NY receiving support for Sandy. Although he should avoid mentioning "pork" at a live conference.

What did I misunderstand? If I genuinely interpreted something incorrectly, my apologies. But when I read the post, the implication was clear to me that FEMA is paying out more than they should for disaster relief benefits, because Dems just love pork spending. Especially considering the Sandy relief bill was (at least to my knowledge) supposed to be a standalone piece of legislation separate and apart from the Cliff nonsense. Boehner dismissed the House immediately after voting on the Cliff stuff, and so forestalled voting on the Sandy bill.

The article mentions Richard Ayoob, who is the administrator of the security firm being engaged by the newspaper..... is he a relation of Massad Ayoob? Seems like small-ish world and not-exactly-common surname in this country for their two be two

That’s the first thing that occurred to me as well, and I ran some searches, but I didn’t find anything linking the two.

I thought this was an interesting look at crime rates vis-à-vis gun laws. (Shared in the CCW thread as well)

I certainly don't think it has helped his primary chances, but I do think it has broadened his appeal to non-Republicans.

Interestingly, I think it also shows him as a run-of-the-mill politician and exemplar of the status quo by railing about the evils of big government..... until he needs a **** ton of money to dig out from a natural disaster. So while many (like my wife) who might not have cared for him much before the Sandy disaster have now found something to praise in the man, I see it as a somewhat depressing example of same old same old.

They seem to be determined to drum the few remaining northeast republicans out of the party. Maybe he'll go independent.

I hadn't seen this last night.... apparently Rep Womack has a similar hearing impairment as Mayor Villaragosa.

he probably could win a general election, but has zero hope in a republican primary now.

I'd imagine way harder than you think. It may have been in that same article, but I read that some people have looked into it and you'd have a hard time finding some items (and you'd be throwing out A LOT of stuff you've bought).
