yeah, presenting for best picture is a bit over the top, and comparing it to being in a digital short at the beginning of the oscars is kinda like saying 3.6 trillion is just like 2.7 trillion only better for the deficit.

In the end, who cares - Michelle Obama did an awful job presenting - they should have had the two daughters do it.

Looking at the dates mentioned in that Media Matters article, Bush appeared in the Academy Awards show in 2002, which would have been months after the attacks of 9/11—a time when patriotism and national unity was still running high. Bush was almost certainly invited for that reason, as most of the people in that room would otherwise revile him. Reagan appeared in the first Academy Awards show following his election. As a former actor and former president of the Screen Actors Guild, his election to the presidency was a significant event for the acting community. I don’t see any similar level of “specialness” that would explain Michelle Obama’s invite.

I don't think anyone should be outraged by it (at least I hope no one would be). I just look at it as another example of the Hollywood-movie character of the Obama presidency. It's essentially the pop-culture White House, both in terms of substance and style. Take that for what its worth, I just find it interesting.

To me it's just another public appearance and nothing else. Not much difference to throwing the first pitch at a ballgame or whatever.

Far more important is the fact that millions of Italians are still voting for Berlusconi's new facemask. I guess they get what they deserve.

Harvey Weinstein Arranged Michelle Obama's Best Picture Oscars Surprise
Michelle Obama presenting best picture from the White House? It was Harvey Weinstein's daughter's idea.

According to Academy president Hawk Koch, the plan came from Weinstein and his daughter, Lily. Koch and Oscar show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron loved the idea. Zadan tells The Hollywood Reporter that when it was pitched to the first lady, her response was: "Yes, I think it's a great idea. We watch movies all the time at the White House. Let's do it."

I agree, this convo is getting a tad silly. Anyone know when ESPN is airing the Barack Obama Bracket Buster Special? Selection Sunday is March 17th, so I would hope it would be that week.

Any comments on local politics? For example:

How about that fired police chief? Illegal slush funds, eh?
How about Mayor Opie? Think he knew of the police corruption? How high does it go?
Justice Orie-Melvin was convicted of corruption. What’s next? Should she be impeached, or should she be allowed to appeal?

Not surprising that D bag commissars don't know that venison is healthier than grocery store meat.

Never mind the asininity of destroying 4/5 of a ton of perfectly good meat, I read this bit and nearly had a seizure: “Deer meat is not permitted to be served in a shelter, restaurant or any other public eating establishment in Louisiana.”

I'm off to NOLA in five weeks, and this curious news to say the least. You can't swing a dead rodent without hitting a restaurant that has alligator. But Bambi meat is taboo. :face:

As a Big Fat Guy™, if there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s wasting good food. The people who ordered that venison to be thrown away should not only be fired, they should be publicly horsewhipped.

Also, if one goes to the official web page of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/), there’s a link to the Hunters for the Hungry program at the bottom-right of the front page! One branch of the government is ordering the destruction of meat obtained by a program officially sponsored by another part of the same government.

It sure makes you wonder whether this is because farmers who raise beef/pork/chicken don't want any competition so the lobby greased the right palms to get venison outlawed.
