No, it equates to whoever poses the least threat to the West and their economic interests. That's why all these dictators have been in power in the first place. Mubarak, Gaddafi, Hussein, Assad, and so on and so on.
That was the old Middle East. The new Middle East will consist of radical theocracies because they will create the most "stability".
Point taken. Ironically, they could very well provide statbility if left alone, certainly more so than the old dictatorships. If these people want theocracies, fine, have fun with it. Let's not pretend that the West concerns itself with funny ideas like human rights or whatever in the region. Sadly, as long as there is oil, they will not be left alone.
