Yeah, all of that stuff is gone.

I go past that dunkin donuts every morning, the line is out the door for that garbage.

I noticed that today because I had to drive down Grant. What the hell is that?

I mean, don't get me wrong, donuts are delicious, but that line was insane.

there was a pretty good article in the wall street journal a few months back documenting the troubles of quiznos.

besides the fact that there is more competition from the places that pittsoccer33 mentioned, the franchisees had a ton of issues with management about a lot of different things, including the purchase of some of the food. they would often be forced to buy tomatoes and stuff like that directly from quiznos and pay extra for the privilege of buying the quiznos tomatoes compared to the tomatoes you could buy in wholesale somewhere else.

When I was a little kid my dad ran a shoe store in what is now the Sprint store on 5th near Smithfield. I thought it was the coolest thing to sneak through the "back" door that other building employees had access to.

I remember eating at a Pizza Hut downtown when I was in college too, and I feel like maybe an Arbys.

As much as I like Qdoba I'd love a Taco Bell to come in.

So a quiznos franchise was a bad investment?

I still think one of these would be nice in pittsburgh

yep. I jogged across the Smithfield Street bridge Monday evening and saw a sign for the gas company to disconnect stuff.

I thought Cicis Pizza was a decent franchise idea, but those all seemed to have failed in the Pittsburgh area too.

My favorite quick/cheap lunch downtown is probably Bobs Subs on Smithfield. Its ran by a girl I used to work with's younger brother. He seems to be doing a good job with it.

I was bummed about Pita Pit. That was a frequent stop for me if I had to buy a lunch. The black bean burrito with lots of fixins was really good.

I am tired of the eating options in my area of town these days. I will usually get Jimmy Johns or Penn Ave. Fish but the latter requires a pretty lengthy wait. The new place I've tried lately is that City Oven joint. It's pretty good.

Tessaro's is expanding, there is an article on the PG Plate blog about it.

This pleases this gentleman. The burgers are good but its a pain to eat in that jive dining room.

Is there anywhere that anyone knows of to get a doner kebab in Pittsburgh?

No problem. There were 2 top results. One did say "Closed" real big in the title.

Wait, is a doner kebob another name for a Gyro?

Sort of/kind of, different sauces and the wrap is different. Kinda weird to explain but they were my drunk food of choice down under, haven't found anything like it here.

Downer kebabs are awesome! Best drunk food ever. I've only seen them in Europe and Oz though...

Oh yes. Lamb and beef with sweet chili sauce, garlic yogurt and barbecue sauce. The things I would do for one.

Franklin Inn last night. Was good. Although, I find not much differences in Mexican joints around here.
