What percentage of pickup owners actually need one?

Government at all levels must recognize them as an indigenous people and immediately protect their human and Constitutional rights against those who would see in their physical and cultural differences a ‘license’ to hunt, trap, or kill them.

I grew up on a farm and my dad never had anything but a truck. He used it all the time, but did he really "need" it? No, he had a tractor, he could have used it, but it was much more convenient to just throw things in the back of the truck.

I would say being a farmer falls into the need category.

Anyway, you just see so many pickups on the road and I imagine that many are not used as they were intended.
ie You see a lot of very clean truck beds.
