So, to do multiplication for #'s greater than 10, you multiply the first numbers (1 and 1), add the 2nd numbers (5), and then multiply them to get the last number (6)?

OH. Just opened on my phone. On my laptop the equality only looks to be 15. This is how I always do math in my head

Anyone have photoshop experience? Looking to get a design for a tattoo, but I would like to see it actually laid out first

Multiply the first (1x1), multiply the seconds then add (1x3+1x2), then multiply the seconds (2x3)

I guess if I actually decided to pay attention it made sense.

Each number in the math equation (13 x 12) corresponds to a line drawn, so 1 red line, 3 blue lines, 1 green? line, and 2 black lines (using white in my text here).

Then, circle where the first digits of both operands intersect (13 x 12). Then, circle where the first digit of the first operand and the second digit of the second operand intersect (13 x 12), AND where the second digit of the first operand and the first digit of the second operand intersect (13 x 12). Finally, circle where the second digits of both operands intersect (13 x 12).

Add up the intersecting lines in each circle, put the 3 numbers together and you have the result (156).

While eating lunch and watching ESPN, I saw a story about the upcoming Notre Dame/ Alabama game. I wonder if the Championship has ever been played between two teams who both have names not ending in "s". (Fighting Irish and Crimson Tide) Hmmmm

I'd rather just learn multiplication tables. Wowza

Notre Dame and Bama played in the Sugar bowl in 1973, I think Bama was crowned champion.

What Rylan said makes more sense to me, but all that is is basically splitting it into a parenthetical equation, and using FOIL.

Yea, but it also causes some issues for bigger numbers. It will work if you do it that way, but you have to be careful how you do it.

Work backwards... Like 97x 85... 7x5=35 carry the 3... 56+45+3=104 carry the 10 72+10= 8245...

Here, I would do 8500-255 = 8245. Easy peasy.

I actually enjoy looking for mathematical patterns. I remember having my mind blown when I learned when you multiply by 9, you subtract one for the first digit, and then the 2nd digit is whatever you add to the first digit to get 9. That was like 2nd or 3rd grade, I guess?

And then I remember having it blown again when I saw the pattern for multiplying 9 by 2 digit numbers a few years later.

I'm not really good at math, I just think it's neat.
