CoD: MW II, Controversial Content (spoiler warning)

Postby André on Thu Oct 29, 2009 4:22 am

Sorry if someone's already posted about this, couldn't find anything.

Yesterday the buzz got out about leaked content from MW II. What appears to the be intro sets up the player as a terrorist and you'll gun down civilians in an airport. At the end of it you're shot yourself by the group leader (the game's bad guy it seems) so it turnes out you were working under cover and got caught.

People think there'll be alot of complaints and arguing over this.

What do you think?

I don't mind at all. If that is the intro I think it's a clever opening of the story.

the political correctness crowd will complain about anything that doesnt fit their world view. the only real problems will show up when some nutcase kills people then blames the game for making him do it ala GTA

I agree wholeheartedly...if some idiot somehow thinks that the game content makes it acceptable to gun down civilians in an airport, they were probably going to do something like this eventually anyway.

Dear God I can't wait for this game........

I'm glad they put it in. No matter what is in there, this will be the biggest selling game of the year. So put something in *so* controversial that other games can sneak by with lesser stuff (like the male same-sex relationships in Dragon Age).

It is also a very interesting way to tell a story. In a movie, you can watch a bad guy. In a book, you can see a bad guy and read his thoughts and motivations. But in a video game, they are making you *be* the bad guy. Forcing you to do things that are despicable. Very interesting.

This game is going to be awesome. It's realistic and the story actually could happen, with all the spies and under covers infiltrating. That being said, I can't wait to play Multi player.

I think any complaints would just be yet another sign of the anti-game thinking.

Violence is accepted in tons of forms, but video gaming is something "new" for the older generation so it's scary, awful and obviously dangerous, likely to ruin the younger generation.

The act of violence is player controlled, yes. But is that worse than watching a movie which you know beforehand will include violence? Or watching it over and over again.

a freiend of mine posted this on his FB

Spoiler:
Modern warfare 2: not sure what it takes for a game to strike emotions inside of you that remind you of 9/11 and painful events in the past that stimulates a certain dormant patriotism. Whatever it is..MW2 has it...it has something that makes it feel so much more than a game...and that's only after 4 levels.

and
Spoiler:
Right when you start the game it brings up a prompt asking if you would like to skip the levels considered "extreamely offensive"

my bad forgot spoilers.

the multiplayer scandal has me probabyl not getting this game. and this was the ONE game i was gonna buy this year.

damn Infinity Ward getting rid of dedicated servers seems like its a terible move. almost 100k preorders for PC already cancelled, Amazon is scrambling and offering a 20 dollar credit towards a future game purchase if u pre-order MW2 becuase of all the cancellations.

No dedicated servers = no cheating.

People were using some dedicated servers just to level up everything at an accelerated pace.

Best thing IW did with the 360 was ban party chat during search and destroy games.
