How do I kill the mouse in my kitchen?

Postby Samsdog on Wed Nov 04, 2009 7:47 pm

The little &%^! is trap shy, he sets off the classic snap traps I have all the time, one time he even set off one of those ones that they physically have to crawl inside to get caught in and I still haven't gotten him. The thing is smarter than me. I need help.

My old cat died and my roommates parents' is too fat. Plus my landlord won't allow it so it'd be risky.

D-Con will get rid of the problem.
If you've seen one mouse you probably have a lot more.

Glue trap maybe? Not the most humane thing, but might work.

That's what I was thinking too. I found a hole in the back of my kitchen and I've seen him run in there so I figured if I glue trapped all around the outside of it he wouldn't have a choice but to get caught. I'm not worried about humanity really. D-con's a good idea too, didn't think of that.

Put a little peanut butter in the middle of the glue trap and that should do it.

If it is smarter than you, don't kill it. Tame it and teach it a few tricks. Or let it teach you a few tricks.

You could napalm the kitchen. That would solve the problem.

set the traps where the mouse needs to jump on it to get the bait and in a corner. I use to have mice in a work trailer on a job site. and the mice were smart they could get all the peanut butter off the traps and not set them off and would not eat D-con

so I set a trap beside a shelf the trap sat lower than the bottom shelf and it was in a corner. placed something in front of the trap so the only way for mice to get to the peanut butter was to drop directly on the trap.

worked everytime

I disagree. If it's smarter than him, samsdog may get home and find a pizza set inside some sort of person trap. He's got to eliminate the mouse before it eliminates him.

If he baited the thing with pizza it would be over for me. No way I'd be able to resist.

d-con is an anticoagulant...the mice actually internally bleed to death in 4-10 days...

The glue traps will work best. They are cheap, too. Whoever said there is more than one is unfortunately correct. I did maintenance work for my local borough to help pay my way through college a while back, and where there is one, there is likely more.

**Find the hole where the mouse is entering/leaving. Pack steel wool into the hole after you kill the mouse. Any more mice that try to enter will slice their mouths on the steel wool and they will not enter your kitchen again. If they ingest the steel wool, it'll cut their insides. Trust me, it will work.

Mice can enter a hole as big as a pencil, so make sure you patch any holes you find. RxBandit is right on about the steel wool...they eat that, they are dead. I used to have a rat problem...dear lord what disgusting creatures. I had to use aluminum flashing over some of the holes (old house) to keep them out.

Agree. Glue traps and the wool in the hole. I had a mouse problem several years back. It was so funny. 7PM, full lights on. I'm standing in the kitchen by the table and the mouse runs right between my legs. Scared? Not the mouse. ME. Then later, I'm sitting in the TV room and the thing does it AGAIN. Runs in between my legs (back to front) then disappears behind the TV. Thing was for sure screwing with me. I had several mice, it turned out. A couple I grabbed in my hand (one got stuck in the bathtub and one I cornered in a room) and threw as far and high as I could out the window. A couple got stuck in the glue trap. And I also used some kind of poison in certain locations, but I don't know it that worked. Then I found the whole and stuffed it. Been all good since.

By the way, mice are cute when you look at them up close. The two I caught alive I tried scaring first. I pretended I was going to eat them and I'd open my mouth wide and snap my teeth while putting it closer and closer to my mouth. LOL.
