What's up with Silva at Man City? He's not even on the bench. Is he injured or just getting frozen out like Mata?

Thanks. Not helpful for my fantasy team, but that makes more sense than Pellegrini just benching him.

Di Canio is too volatile. Also, doing things like calling out a professional who gives 100% effort like John O'Shea make no sense. Things have changed very quickly from the knee-sliding goal celebration in the 3-nil against Newcastile in the spring to a 3-nil loss to the Baggies yesterday.

Wow, that was a nice goal.

Is it just me or is Man U just not that good? Not just because they are behind right now, but looking at their lineup, they don't seem to have many players of really high quality.

They still have RVP, Rooney, Ferdinand, and Vidic. But they haven't been that good for about 5 yrs. It's just that Fergie is that good of a coach.

Yeah, their midfield is very average. I think the quality of Van Persie and Rooney papers over a lot of the underlying deficiency, but other than that, it seems they've been getting by on that "Man U mystique" that allowed them to win games they shouldn't have. That seems to have left with Ferguson.

On paper, Man City, Chelsea, and maybe even Arsenal have better teams.

Exactly. They had no business winning the title two years ago and came within 90 secs of doing so. Last year, Citeh's squad was still much better on paper. They just got lucky that Mancini is a horrible manager and was almost universally hated by everyone (not just the players) at the Etihad. The fact they brought Scholes out of retirement and regularly play Cleverly screams out that their midfield isn't good enough.

United were unlikey champions two seasons ago* and didn't get better this year. They simply don't have much money to invest right now, I guess. They've been in need of midfield help for years.

I'm going out on a limb and predict that Moyes' tenure will be significantly shorter than Sir Alex'.

Di Canio was calling guys out in the media, staring down the fans or something, and not winning games. Plus, I'm sure his past was factored in. Anyway you slice it, it looks like a foolish decision by management. What's insane is that he brought in 13 players or something in the window. So he was allowed to spend cash to some degree. What's more insane is that he sold his best player in Mignolet and a quality player in Stéphane Sessègnon.

And somehow Kagawa can't get a game.

I find it hilarious that Hodgsen plays those two for England. I guess he doesn't want Fergie to get mad at him.

Hundreds of migrant workers will die in horrible conditions so that Qatar can host a World Cup:

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/sep/21/qatar-human-rights-sport-cohen?CMP=twt_gu

How to characterise them? "Absolute monarchy" does not begin to capture a society such as Qatar, where migrants make up 99% of the private sector workforce. Apartheid South Africa is a useful point of reference. The 225,000 Qatari citizens can form trade unions and strike. The roughly 1.8 million migrants cannot. Sparta also comes to mind. But instead of a warrior elite living off the labour of helots, we have plutocrats and sybarites sustained by faceless armies of disposable migrants.
