Schweini is a hell of a player and a warrior, just strikes me as irritating at times. Happy he plays for Germany though. I'm happy that the first WC after my daughter was born was won by our country of heritage.

This was my first World Cup as a fan with some sort of understanding of the game, the players, the personalities.... the passion. I swear, if the U.S. ever gets to a WC final, I will absolutely lose my sh|t.

Spain and Argentina are my two favorite non-American sides. And even with just 3 or 4 players I was supporting in this match, the pucker factor was off the charts. I lost my voice when Higuain didn't score, and spent extra time with my other Argie shirt over my head. (Was with my Argie neighbor at, oddly, a South African bar that was 2:1 Germany)

All in all, I have to say the World Cup is now pretty much my favorite thing.

Also, not really sure Messi deserved the Golden Ball. My vote would have been Rodriguez of Colombia, or Mascherano of Argentina.

It's strange to realize that no team could match Germany in individual talent. Not Argentina, not France, probably not even Spain and certainly not Brazil. Hard to believe they pulled this off without Reus and also Gündogan and Badstuber.

Thinking of getting into Premier League this year if I only to give me another reason to start drinking before noon.

Now I just need to find the right team to root for.

I'm fairly new to soccer - my son got me hooked on watching Bayern Munich. I think every major soccer star has their irritating moments (indignation and flopping happen fairly often) as do most great professional athletes it seems. Cutch and Sid are two current guys who almost never get on my nerves.

I'm in again too. I thought both the yahoo and fantasy premier league sites had their upsides and downsides, but probably liked yahoo a little better.

When I went to the DC United/Sounders game in DC with a traveling contingent of like 400 Seattle fans, it was one of the most fun experiences I've had. And they all told me I need to make a trip out to Seattle for a home game. Can't wait.

I enjoy watching all the Akron alumni when these two teams play. Yedlin, Zakuani, Nagbe, Zemanski, Speas.. Caleb Porter coaching Portland. Pretty crazy, considering Wil Trapp and Perry Kitchen are favored to make the 2018 team too, with Nagbe and Yedlin.

Scary thing about this German team is that their average age is 26. They could bring back a lot of guys from this team who will be in their primes or just slightly past their primes but still good in 2018. Klose is retiring. Podolski's likely gone. Schweingsteiger will be 33 and may need replacing (had the game lasted another five minutes he might have died). Lahm will be 34 but I could see him aging well enough to still be playing. Mertesacker will be 33 which isn't that old for a CB and it may be a good thing if he's gone. Khedira will be 31. The rest of their outfield players will be 30 or younger. They also had guys who would have made this team but were hurt. You can insert your own joke about Germany successfully invading Russia this time here and get used to a bunch of them over the next 4 years.

I doubt they could rip off a Pax Espana-style run of winning titles over the next six years because other European teams (namely Spain and Belgium, and I think France) have a strong group of young talent as well. Plus winning a title is really hard and takes luck that isn't always there. On a better day Higuain converts one of his chances, or in an alternate reality Man City don't play Aguero when he's not healthy and he makes it to the tourney in one piece and gives Germany more trouble. It would however not be shocking if they added to their trophy haul either in 2016 or 2018 or even 2020 with this core. Hopefully Jurgen can find a few more Germans with American ancestors that won't crack the German setup and convince them to come home.

While the diving and flopping is indeed terrible, people need to realize that the pain, most of the time, is very much real. I thought the refereeing was not very good in this tourney, highlighted by last night's game, when Schweinsteiger made it off the pitch in one piece while being booked for something as outrageous as laying a hand on an opponent's shoulder.

They have a hard job making difference between legit fouls and dives especially when it's mostly just one guy calling penalties.
