Undeserved point there, though I guess with that offsides goal not the greatest injustice.

Good to see Chadli finishing. QPR is overmatched.

Through the first two weeks Spurs with all 6 points, ManU with only 1 point. Good start so far.

I didn't get a chance to watch any EPL games this weekend, but I just caught the 2nd half of the Portland v Seattle game. It was very entertaining, and Seattle was fantastic.

Man United finished their transfer for Angel Di Maria... for 63.9 million pounds.

Di Maria's a great player; he's not going to fix that team atm. Their need is in defense & central midfield.

I agree. From the couple Real games I saw last year, I thought he was more influential than Ronaldo or Bale. However, Man U probably could have bought, say, Khedira and two good center backs for about the same price.

Khedira apparently was to be sold, but Ancelotti made it very clear that he wanted to keep him. So I guess Di Maria had to go instead.

I saw most of the second half of the Man U game. That team is a complete mess. The lack of quality is pretty stunning, and right now they seem to have no unified sense of direction or shape. In the second half, the back three was Jones, Blackett, and Keane. Young on the outside in that 3-5-2 seems to be just a terrible idea. I'd love to read what Draftnik is thinking about seeing Jones, Blackett, Keane, Cleverley, Young, and Fletcher all on the field at the same time for a league match.

Simeone slapped with eight-game ban
The Atletico Madrid boss has been punished for an altercation with officials during the Supercopa second leg and will miss the Liga clash with Real Madrid next month

Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has been hit with a total ban of eight matches following his conduct during the Supercopa de Espana clash with Real Madrid.

Simeone was sent from the dugout in the first half of the second leg at the Vicente Calderon on Friday after arguing with the officials on the touchline. He then patted the fourth official on the head and sarcastically applauded the referee before heading to the stands.

The Argentine said earlier that he was willing to "pay the price" for his indiscretion, and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has now deemed fit to punish him for four separate acts of misconduct, totalling an eight-match ban from the touchline.

I'm still not super familiar with the laws of the game, but when I saw the incident live I was surprised he was even ejected. 8 match ban seems way harsh.

Yes and no. When all three (or before Bale arrived) were in the lineup he does a lot of the defensive work needed, and also creates a lot of problems for other teams with his speed, skill and work rate. At the same time I think he played better when Ronaldo was in the line-up.

ADM can also play anywhere in the midfield.

I can understand Ancelotti wanting to keep Khedira. He does bring something different then Kroos, Alonso, James, Modric etc..

If there's any weakness in the presumed 4-2-3-1 they plan to play, its that both Modric/Kroos in the holding positions is soft. I know that we've moved away a good bit from the pure creator/destroyer model in central (and/or holding) midfield positions, but Alonso does so much to allow Modric to control the game -- but he is 32 and has a lot of minutes in his legs. You can't sit Modric IMO, and if a Modric/Kroos coupling doesn't work out, who covers for Alonso? You can't sell Khedira, but you can sell DiMaria. I think for once, Perez listened to Ancelotti.

Last season it to some time to figure out the best starting 11, same thing this season. They could play any combination of Modric, Alonso and Khedira and move Kroos up the pitch. I do expect Alonso to start in the bigger games.

I watched the second half... that roster is utterly incapable of pulling off Van Gaal's 3-5-2. When their best defender is Jones / Evans, it doesn't work.

MK Dons ripped apart their defense (led by Evans) like it was paper. Which is basically is now.

Kagawa also went off with a likely concussion. Thankfully, they have 2000 other attacking midfielders they can use.
