Terry is a truly despicable individual. His actions will make the entire Chelsea squad uncomfortable every match for the remainder of the season. It will be interesting to see what happens at Stamford Bridge. The visiting supporters will obviously be chanting all kinds of X rated stuff in his direction. Will the Chelsea supporters have his back?

In many ways Terry is a bigger pariah in the male world than Tiger Woods and Marty Brodeur IMO. Those guys did terrible things but essentially they did them to their wives (women). Terry actually broke the man code and stabbed an alleged best friend in the back. There is no way he can be viewed the same way by the other players in the Chelsea room and even the mostly male supporters at Stamford Bridge will have a hard time reconciling his actions IMO.

Ancelotti's going to give him some kind of compassionate leave. But I basically agree with you, there's no way that this isn't affecting the club as a whole. The measures they supposedly had to go through to prevent the paparazzi from getting to him alone are going to be enough of a distraction.

Agree about the man-code as well. This is going to follow him for the rest of his life. The most attractive thing about soccer fandom to me is the religious-zealotness of it's supporters. I often wish hockey was the same way. There's a difference between booing Jaromir Jagr and essentially having 17k sing songs about his gambling addiction. That's the real way to throw a player off.

Cardiff City is a write off. I wonder if Ancelotti will sit him through that and just hope that things die down from there on out. I wonder if he'll play against Inter because I was hoping to catch that game.

A couple of interesting stories this morning in SBI, including Beasely's car being torched in Glasgow; but this one is news to me:

http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_i ... -more.html

If England captain John Terry's act of cheating with the significant other of a teammate sounds familiar, it does to members of the 1998 U.S. World Cup team. According to 1998 U.S. head coach Steve Sampson, former U.S. national team captain John Harkes had an affair with teammate Eric Wynalda's wife, an act that led to Sampson leaving Harkes off the 1998 World Cup team.

Was this ever known before now? It puts that tournament (and Sampson's reign) in a completely different light for me.

It was always rumored, but never confirmed. Wynalda pretty much confirmed it on his Fox show this week (I'm divorced and I don't have John Harkes' phone number). I guess that's how you go from "Captain for Life" to the outside looking in.

I guess it explains Samson's decision, but doesn't explain the 3-6-1 and the horrible showing.

As Draftnik pointed out, this is just something you can't do to a fellow friend and someone you share a dressing room with (potentially). It will be interesting to see what happens, I can't see Capello axing him, but geez, I wouldn't blame him.

According to The Sun (yeah, I know), Bridge's girlfriend really got around the Chelsea dressing room. If that's the case, this scandal probably won't have that big of an impact on Chelsea or England as the players may just view Bridge as being naive. The England squad is rife with questionable characters anyway and Terry may just be the right guy to lead them in SA after all.

England

Terry- drunkenly harassed US tourists about 9-11 at Heathrow on 9-12-2001, parks Bentley in handicapped parking zone, allegedly involved in hospital swindle, cheats on wife with gf of teammate. Definitely captain material.

Ferdinand - Drugs test violation

A Cole - generally a petulant and entitled little DB who just got caught speeding ridiculously

Gerrard - night club bust ups

Rooney - night club bust ups

Dafoe - drunk driving

Lampard - along with Terry drunkenly harassed US tourists about 9-11 at Heathrow on 9-12-2001

this is just off the top of my head, so I'm sure there's much more that I'm missing. The Three Lions deserve to have Terry as captain.

In the immediate aftermath of September 11, 2001, he and Chelsea team-mates Frank Lampard, Eidur Gudjohnsen and Jody Morris were accused of drunkenly mocking American tourists at Heathrow, stripping naked, laughing and vomiting.

I'm pretty sure I read an article years ago where Lampard apologized for this. While I'm not sure about the extent of their behavior (e.g., vomiting, stripping, and spitting), I do think the root of the statement - that being drunkenly making insensitive comments about 9-11 to US tourists on 9-12 - is fairly accurate.

None of the other English or Chelsea players appear to have violated the man code.

Terry tapped the tramp after she had Bridge's child and Terry also tapped her in Bridge's house. Bridge also had broken up with the tramp but was still hurting from the breakup, so Terry really stabbed him in the back 3 ways by tapping the mother of Bridge's child, in Bridge's house, while Bridge still had feelings for her. I don't think anybody would be surprised to learn Terry had side mounts all over the planet, but this woman was clearly one of the few that should have been off limits based on the man code. Terry also was a best mate of Bridge, unlike the others. If it weren't a big deal, Terry would not have spent thousands of pounds on lawyers fees to squash the story.

From the Sun story it appears Gudjohnson & Mutu allegedly tapped her before she became involved with Bridge.

It is interesting that there allegedly is an unnamed 5th player. It will only fuel speculation that fat Frank is part of the team.

Terry has been in damage control over this story for months. His lawyers petitioned the English high court to squash the story based on some kind of secrecy statute. The judge basically said it was a frivolous petition and Terry was only interested in protecting his endorsements. The statute is essentially to squash stories based on national security.

Terry has a team of image consultants trying to do damage control, so they will be trying to plant stories to paint him in a favorable light.

The totality of Terry's disgracing the English and Chelsea Captaincy is stunning. He and his marketers sent out mass email blasts to companies pimping Terry as a pitchman of grand status because of his English Captaincy. It cheapened the honor and Capello warned him over his behavior. Then Terry took £10,000 to conduct a secret tour of Chelsea's new training ground and cheapened his club Captaincy.

I don't think there will be any lessening of Terry's pariah status because of the totality of his self serving actions. He is the antithesis of what a Captain is supposed to represent.

If the Chelsea supporters try to cover Terry's back this weekend and drown out the Arsenal chants deriding Terry, it will fuel a sense of self loathing in any supporter that subscribes to the man code. Terry's Chelsea and England teammates will all be subject to extraordinary abuse because of their Captain's actions.

This story will not go away. Terry and Chelsea will be harassed for at least the remainder of this season if not longer. Terry will be hounded by the English press indefinitely.

A little off topic.....but does anyone know of a site to get cheap soccer jerseys? Something along the lines of a borntrade.com?

I really want to get a Liverpool jersey before they switch sponsors.

Terry is battered & beaten.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/article7017235.ece

He is the definition of white trash. His father sells drugs, his mother shoplifts, and Terry sells anything he can including (against FA rules) his Wembley box.

Suffer Terry, suffer Chelsea :!: :thumb:

The Sun story about the tramp may be true, but as the Times sharply points out it was obviously planted by the Terry PR machine:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/article7017189.ece

The tramp denied the allegations.

Supporters at Premier League grounds across England have to turn up the heat on Terry, destroy his season and Chelsea's in the process and drive Terry out of the country. No English football ground including Stamford Bridge will provide a safe haven for Terry.

Terry will be transferred to Italy or Spain IMO after the World Cup.

For my money, it wasn't worth it, Johnny.

I could only hope that they give the captaincy to Rooney and he melts under the pressure (after Man Utd wins the league, of course).

Rio got the captaincy. I'm glad Rooney didn't get it. He doesn't need the distraction coming to the business end of the season. Plus it will keep Rio on the straight and narrow. I didn't catch too much of the match today due to post snow storm activities and the Pens game starting at Noon but I didn't hear the Arsenal fans ripping into Terry.

I read Terry took out 4 mortgages on his primary residence. I can't imagine they would be simultaneous and some are probably refinancing, but given the value of his house (~ £2.7M) and his annual wages (nearly £9M per year) it is obvious Terry has major money problems. That explains why he is so anxious and brazen about selling private tours of Chelsea's training ground and pimping out his Wembley box. He is a known gambler so maybe that is the root cause of his troubles. The affair could open a much more serious can of worms for Terry. It puts his Euro Cup final PK miss in a totally different light.

I'm not sure about Rio being captain, he hasn't played an awful lot yet this season and there have comments that he has lost his legs. Not sure who should have been made captain instead though, centreback is probably the best position for a captain, besides that Rooney shouldn't be bothered with that pressure and Gerrard has been just awful this season.

Altidore scored his first league goal Saturday, a very nice finish. They finally paired him with a hold up player, and he's playing off him. Altidore's hold up play should be better, but that's not his game.

He was a handful all match long and Boyatta could have been sent off 3 times over with all the shirt grabbing he did on Jozy.

I think Everton choked after Pool was down a man. Really poor performance. And while you can't win games without scoring goals, Tim Howard was completely out to lunch on the Pool goal.

Arsenal should start playing with, you know, a striker, you know, at the start of the game? The train has been derailed.

I'm looking forward to watching the Premier League Review Show. I can't remember the last time I saw this little EPL action over a weekend. It probably goes back to the 05/06 season.

Rio looked fit vs. Hull and citeh but I agree he looked like he lost a step vs. Bellamy & Torres earlier this year. Maybe the time off helped fix whatever was ailing him. I guess he had some back/hamstring issues but supposedly a new stretching routine has him feeling better. At least he is fitter than Vidic.

Wenger needs to look in the mirror. He is very dismissive of other teams/managers (the long ball comments vs. Villa & O'Neil for example) but he doesn't seem objective enough to acknowledge his personal weaknesses and his teams weaknesses. Their season isn't over and they've had a tougher schedule than the other Big 3, but he really has to beat Liverpool next match. His decision to rest some regulars in the FA Cup after he promised a trophy this season looks pretty stupid right now. The FA Cup sans United looks like an easier path to Silverware than the League title and/or Euro Cup.

For all his histrionics Drogba is an amazing player. He and Ronaldo are among the few players in the world that are good enough with both feet to make the move/finish he did today.

If we can play like we did today for the rest of the year (aside from our brutal home matches), we'll be in good shape.

Ilan has been fantastic (came in for a winded Mido that was only fit for 20 minutes of the match). When we play Man U, I hope you get to see him, Draftnik. He and Cole did great together up front today. No one seemed to know if him here when I asked. Got 3 starts for Brazil and was doing great at St. Etienne before getting sent off. Really promising young kid. :thumb:

Diamanti is proving to be invaluable. His corner and free kick ability is something this team sorely lacked.
