I hate Robben but that touch to get past Subotic was ridiculous.

Gündoğan hasn't really gotten a ton of hype but he is a player I would love to have at Arsenal. (I'd pretty much take about 90% of the Dortmund team at Arsenal.)

I'm a big fan of Gündogan. Him and Wilshere would get along well. ;)

So do I root for Manuel Almunia back in the Premiership or Ian Holloway back in the Premiership, gotta go with Average Al.

Also, if Watford wins, I wonder if all these on loan players will actually be at the club next year or if they will buy a bunch of new players.

I'm cheering for Watford & their ugly yellow uniforms. Watford vs. Norwich for the king of bright yellow jerseys.

Barca won the Neymar sweepstakes. It will be interesting to see if he's able to be the team player that he needs to be to be effective for them. To be to be to be. Me fail English. Whatever.

This game is pretty representative of the problems with the US team. They do OK keeping possession in the back third and middle third, but can’t consistently create chances against good teams. There is not enough individual pace, speed of passing, creativity, or individual skill to create anything against this caliber opponent. The defense has been fairly solid, but suffered from “rookie” mistakes and lack of cohesion.

I’m really not sure what can be done until some more dynamic offensive players come through the pipeline and some of the inexperienced defenders get more seasoning.

US never has a very maintainable offense. American players are not dynamic individually and forwards seem to tend to lack creativity or will to be properly aggressive.

How the hell did I miss that this game was being played, and in Cleveland no less. Not happy about that.

Every time games have come to DC(somehow I still haven't been to a United game) it always comes at a time when I am making major expenditures and can't afford to go. I missed Madrid recently and I can't remember what the other was, maybe an International friendly. In any case, I'm annoyed every time I miss them. I also was unaware that this was in Cleveland, though I knew it was happening.

Are you going to the Germany game on Sunday (RFK)?

I went to RFK last weekend for the Timbers game. What a dump.

This is exactly it. The midfield is where the US likes to lose games. They generally lack control or the creativity you spoke of to really do anything effectively. Without Donovan and the often injured Michael Bradley the team lacks any real talent in the midfield capable of actually doing something. Hell, just watching them possess the ball can be comical. Then play the long ball hoping to get it over the backline's heads.

Monaco actually has some history and has had quality players: Hoddle, Henry, Klinsmann, Weah, etc. Both Wenger and Deschamps have coached there and they made the CL final in '04. It still seems weird that a newly promoted team from Ligue 2 (even with the billionaire owner) is able to thrown around that kind of money and attract quality players.

It will be fun when the billionaire owner loses interest after two years and the club is stuck with ridiculous contracts (see Malaga).

I haven't looked closely at the rules, but I thought the gist of the UEFA fairplay requirements was that clubs couldn't spend more than the revenue they took in. If this is right, wouldn't Monaco run afoul of this? They can't have much revenue having just been promoted and playing in a small stadium, but they just spent a ton of money. I thought that Malaga was going to be banned from next year's CL regardless of their qualification for this reason.

It's all very confusing, really. The introduction of the new regulations was pushed back to 2015, yet Malaga was indeed banned.

There has always been fear and trepidation that FFP was all talk and was never going to be enforced by FIFA/UEFA.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen doing an Enckelmann. Very talented young man, but his international career has been comedy central so far.

I can't believe how much better the US look in comparison to the Belgium game. Bradley really makes a huge difference, and Brad Evans, against all rational expectations, looks pretty good at right back. Every time the clamoring for Klinsmann to get the axe starts to heat up, he seems to come up with a result to quiet the critics.

That being said, it wouldn't surprise me to see Germany pick it up in the 2nd half and put 2-3 goals in. Schuerrle is completely owning Beasley.
