For a while now it's been common practice for gulf states to use what is essentially indentured servitude. The only question was whether Qatar would be dumb enough to use them in such a high-profile capacity.

Also, I love how all the talk is about moving the WC is only about the season and not the location. It's yet another testament to how many palms have been greased by oil money.

I am not a fan of Torres at all... but his red card was anything but deserved. I know in live time it may have looked bad, especially with the defender falling to the ground grabbing his eye like he just got hit with a slingshot, but that was just a bad call. I'm not going to complain though. Gives my spurs a chance to win this.

Maybe the EPL should just ditch stoppage time and let the teams play until the top team scores.

I have no data to back this up, but it seems that an average EPL match is 2 or maybe even 3 minutes longer than an average Bundesliga match.

I feel dirty for praising anything related to Diego Simeone, but holy crap, Atletico Madrid looks good right now.

Wow, I was busy today and couldn't watch any games, but I just checked the scores around Europe...tons of upsets. It would be fantastic if the EPL were actually a 4-5 team race for most of the season and La Liga were actually a 3 team race for most of the season.

I'm not sure what happened to Joe Hart, he used to be quality but has had a huge decline over the past 18months-2yrs. I think Citeh may dominate the other big teams but find the grind against the smaller teams to be difficult.

That free kick for the Baggies was amazing. So much power on a shot that curled into the top corner, I could watch it all day. I think the first was better though. Not only did Amalfitano pull off that dribbling run but the fake before the chip was exquisite.

Somebody suggested on twitter that Utd should go after Simeone which would be lulztastic if you consider the whole Beckham '98 WC thing.

You'll enjoy knowing that Arsenal has had no less than 4 Germans score so far this season (Big Per, Poldi, Gnabry, and Eisfeld)

Roma are top in the Serie A after a 5-nil win yesterday in which even Gervinho scored. Rudy Garcia seems to be pretty underrated. I guess his title win with Lille a couple of seasons ago wasn't a fluke afterall.

I don't know if Atletico have the depth to maintain a title challenge but from when I have seen them this year they look impressive. They would be horrible to play against.

Bale was less than impressive. He is never going to come close to validating his price tag. Real Madrid miss Alonso greatly.

Real could probably use some creativity in their central midfield. pop

Atletico will eventually fade, I think. Fade in this case meaning dropping out of the Top 2 to comfortably finish 3rd again. Believe it or not (had to check myself), but last season they were ahead of Real up until March. Of course, the title race was already decided by Thanksgiving.

I could see them progressing pretty far in the Champions League. They are so tough to breakdown they will be a tough out in the knockout stages.

I could see them getting results against Barcelona in the league. In the super cup they looked the better team to me. That might prolong the title race but I agree its Barca's in the end.

Atleti has actually faired well against Barca going back to the Fernando Torres days. There is a lot of talent there but much of it is 2nd tier or aging talent. They also don't have anyone who can take over games like Ronaldo can (Bale as well has shown this in spurts in England).

How can you not rate Ancelotti but something does not seem right at Real. I thought Alonso was being used less and less even before the injury. Was that just one of Mourinho's quirks (ie Mata and Casillas)?

Alonso played 47 games last year. He's very much the focal point of that team. After Ronaldo and maybe Ramos I would say he's the next name on the team sheet.

Lukaku's really good. And I'd say that Everton got the better of the managers so far this season :pop: (because you can obviously judge from less than 10 games, haha).

Who would you rather have, Lukaku and Sturridge or Torres and Eto'o? And I'm not talking about Torres and Eto'o from 5 years ago.

I'm not sure what Mourinho was thinking. He clearly doesn't rate Ba, Eto'o is out of form, and Torres isn't what he used to be although he has been decent recently. Loaning Lukaku out to Everton seems foolish. Second year in a row Chelsea's best striker isn't even at the club.
