Suarez against Stoke, you mean this gem where nothing was done?

Even with the benefit of replay I think the Wilshere tackle could go either way.

IMO close calls like that should go to the defender in order to discourage diving.

Right, my point is after all of the crying wolf that Suarez has done he can't feel agrieved if he doesn't get a peno when he is legitimately fouled.

It's an English thing. (I 'm a wannabee American soccer fan who uses English slang to justify that I know what I am talking about despite just calling it "soccer".)

Crazy stuff in CONCACAF qualifying. I was watching the US game on a crappy stream that switched to Sons of Anarchy at about the 30 minute mark, and I almost gave up on it and went to bed. I'm glad I found another stream and kept watching. I kind of feel bad for Panama, but they didn't do anything to try to protect the lead other than their keeper faking an injury to waste time. They also only won one game out of ten--that shouldn't be enough to get to a World Cup play-in game.

I hope New Zealand can knock out Mexico.

If you haven't seen this yet, it is absolutely worth watching. This is one of the most amusing goal calls I've ever heard. This is the Mexican TV feed calling the U.S.A goals that saved Mexico from elimination.

Croatia fired their coach this morning and named youth coach Niko Kovac as short-term manager. Croatia has a lot of talent and really underachieved in qualifying. They are my second team because of my heritage.

I didn't follow this closely or watch any of their games, but I'm curious as to why you think they underachieved. Just looking at the standings, I would think finishing 2nd behind a strong Belgium team (and wrapping up 2nd place with a game or two left) and making it to at least the playoff round would be a decent level of achievement.

I don't necessarily have a problem finishing 2nd to Belgium. Belgium is definitely strong for sure but this is the first time they have put it all together whereas Croatia has qualified for big tournaments recently. The problem is finishing 9 pts behind Belgium. Croatia dropped 6 pts to Scotland and lost at home to Belgium, that's your 9 pts right there. Croatia drew away to Belgium so a draw at home to Belgium wouldn't have been asking for the world.

The video is not working for me--said it's unavailable in my country. I did, however, find the translated transcript online. The announcer really, really rips the Mexican players.

That makes sense. Losing twice to Scotland should be a fire-able offense.

Some posters on the Bigsoccer boards calculated what the FIFA rankings are going to be that will be used to determine the seeds for the World Cup. If they're right, the seeds will be:

Brazil
Spain
Argentina
Germany
Uruguay
Colombia
Belgium
Switzerland

Of course, Uruguay still has to beat Jordan in playoff to make it. But, that's still a crazy list considering that Holland, Italy, and England didn't make the cut. I know Belgium is stacked on paper, as WDWBurghGooner is fond of pointing out, they haven't even been in a major tournament in a while. Switzerland is one of those teams that always seems to qualify, but never does anything interesting once they get there. Colombia also looks good on paper and in qualifying, but they haven't made the World Cup since '98 (I thought they hadn't been in 2010, and when I looked it up, found they haven't qualified since then).

Yeah, teams will be seeded according to their FIFA ranking in October 2013. I hope the poor saps didn't calculate the ranking themselves.

No idea how the ranking works or why Switzerland is ahead of both Italy and the Netherlands. The won much tougher groups than Switzerland did.
