If the tag division ever had an actual revitalization, Prime Time players would fit in nicely.

I don't mind the PTP, but the tag division is awful. The treat the tag titles much like they do the US and IC title... as titles that generally mean nothing.

Actually, by the looks of it, they can. The thrust of the Deadspin article is being gay is completely unremarkable in the WWE. Thus, releasing a gay wrestler should be no different than releasing a straight one, so long as a release doesn't coincide with the wrestler coming out. For God's sake, Pat Patterson is gay! Lots of :thumb: in that article.

The tag division did have some promise a few months ago

Also, PTP are barely on Raw. Having an openly gay wrestler on the active roster is far more important than keeping one wrestler that you don't particularly enjoy (who's barely on TV anyway).

WWE now has a role model for young fans who are gay, and they can say they are a "progressive" company.

Certainly a great story, I'd like to find out more behind the TMZ angle though. Kind of weird that TMZ randomly goes up to Young in the airport, asks him about gay wrestlers, and he comes out five seconds later. Makes me wonder if he and TMZ worked something out beforehand (for them to be the "breaker" of the story, so to speak).

I thought something similar: that TMZ knew he was gay (the WWE locker room did) and confronted him. Surely, this isn't a pure coincidence.

That makes sense too, and it definitely doesn't diminish the story in any way. But yeah, it wasn't a random encounter for sure.

1998 Vince McMahon would have put him in this horrible angle where he is a more overtly sexual Goldust. I definitely think the locker room is far more accepting than people realize nowadays.

Coachman's near-indignant comment is awesome.

Would anyone find it distasteful to have his tag-team partner turn on him because of the news and become a super heel making Young a face? Or do you think that too many fans would be rooting against Young for him to be a face as an openly gay wrestler?

The only true way to make this be a great story is to not acknowledge his sexual orientation on air at all. Please don't turn it into a work.

I do agree that it seems a bit coincidental for TMZ to show up, ask that question and get that response. My guess is, Young wanted to come out and used WWE's relationship with TMZ as the platform to do it.

I honestly don't think there is anything you can do to make people care about Darren Young as a wrestler. He's just kind of there and that's pretty much his ceiling.

I'm watching TNA's hardcore PPV night right now. I know that the storylines leave a lot to be desired, but IMO, the wrestling is 1000% better than WWE. This is an incredible 4-man ladder match.

To add, the Tito Ortiz/Rampage Jackson angle in TNA is quite entertaining.

TNA reminds me that tag matches can actually be good.
