There was a story reason. Heyman tried to avoid Punk by going on top. The story reason for Bryan/Orton in the cell is no interference from Big Show. In the PG era, the cell will not have the same brutality as it used to. That's fine with me. I'm a proponent of no blood anyway.
In a related note, I can't wait until they do away with these gimmick PPVs.
I guess I'm just sick of the cell being overused at this point. I know we don't have blood these days, but having a hell in the cell match, or even a regular cage match without just seems silly. Those matches are supposed to be brutal, and bloody. Hence why they should only be used on very special occasions, not all the friggin time when the people who book stuff can't figure out how to end a feud. That HITC with Punk/Ryback felt like a regular match. It could have been a NO DQ match and had all the same stuff happen, and still have the payoff of Punk getting Heyman at the end.
Oh, I agree with you. The reason for that is the yearly gimmick PPVs. I'd rather them only bust the cell out once every 5 years or so. Gimmick PPVs need to go away. HitC, Money in the Bank, TLC, Elimination Chamber do nothing but devalue the matches.
As for blood, maybe it's because I'm an old fart now, but I cringe every time I see blood in a match, even when watching old matches. All I can think about is all of the health issues it brings into play. Blood, chair shots to the head, all of the "extreme" violence stuff just turns my stomach. It's barbaric and unnecessary.
Chairshots to the head i agree with, but blood if used in the RIGHT instance and only sparingly can add impact. Imagine Hart vs Austin at WM13, and Austin passing out in a pool of his own blood... it's an iconic image. Tully Blanchard vs Magnum TA brutalizing each other inside the cage at Starcade, using a piece of broken chair trying to maim each other. Blood was certainly way overused for a while, but I think it has its place on special occasions.
For sure. Blood has a way of getting something over that nothing else does. Still though, the risks are way too big. It has nothing to do with being "PG," it won't return because of the health risks, not the current rating of the TV show.
I'm fine with that. It just means that the writers and wrestlers need to be more creative and come up with another way to get something over. Did the blood get Stone Cold over? Absolutely. But if he didn't bleed, he would've got over just as well without it. It just may have taken a bit longer.
