Whoever was just on with Poni completely decimated his point on air. It was beautiful. He had a clear and concise point to make about the interception at the end of the Patriots game and explained why it was a clean play according to the rules of officiating. Poni tried and tried to argue but the guy simply buried him on every angle Poni tried to take and he never even raised his voice. When it became apparent that Poni couldn't ruffle the guy's feathers and that he didn't have a leg to stand on in the conversation, Poni just hung up on him.

Beautiful.

Vinnie made a reference to Gary Payton yesterday. Cook had no idea who that was although he assumed he was an NBA player by context.

I get that there's no NBA team in this town but seriously, the name of a 9 time all star point guard doesn't even remotely ring a bell to one of a major city's leading sports columnists?

To be honest, I had to think for a minute to remember who Gary Payton was. There is a lot to get upset re: Cook but I wouldn't blame him for that.

Are you a leading sports columnist and talk show host in a large city and well compensated to be informed about sports?

Nope. I think you're just nitpicking to nitpick at this point. Cook has spent an entire career in Pittsburgh that is dominated by the NFL, NHL and MLB. If there is talk about Basketball, it's Pitt and hardly EVER does it have to do with the NBA. And Gary Payton retired over 5 years ago. (Had to check his Wikipedia.)

I have no problem viewing Ron Cook as the spokesperson of Pittsburgh's anti NBA stance. Pittsburgh just likes to crap on the NBA cause there isn't a team here to pay attention to. Thus they **** on it to valdidate their lack of interest. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just significantly less interesting when you don't have a rooting interest.

So not immediately recognizing Gary Paton = **** on the NBA? Jumping to conclusions?

Payton is one of the best PGs in the history of basketball and a hall of famer. Cook not knowing who he is, as a sports columnist/sports talk host in a major American city is embarrassing.

Are you Ron Cook?
