prince fielder led the league in getting hit by pitches last year, because he is fat and crowds the plate. nan has the same kind of problems, except instead of getting hit by pitches, he gets insulted by witty people

To NAN's point, I don't listen to the morning show anymore. I haven't listened to Poni in over a year.

I'll probably tune back in to the morning show during Pitt/Steelers football season because of their Pitt coverage and the fact that they are much better at talking football compared to hockey. They also have people like Bouchette on who is always good.

I've been listening more lately because the Pirates are good, and as for sports talk, they're really all we've got. 970 doesn't count and 105.9 has terrible music or Madden interviewing a stripper almost half the time...so that doesn't count as sports talk to me either.

Madden's 2pm show during the season is quality; the Tool, stripper show is not.

the sad part is, madden does have some good insights when we are not subjected to yet another round of foo fighters talk. hes a bit more negative towards the pirates but most of that is backed by somewhat reasonable observation, unlike poni.

Fair question, and I'll do my best to answer it.

Long answer:
Despite having Sirius and over 100 satellite channels, I find myself drifting over to local radio sometimes. Yes, even Sirius loves them some STP and Nirvana or repeats in similar fashion, so I am forced to change it up. One of my presets is 93.7, which I mainly keep programmed for Pirates game. My presets alternate from FM to Sirius back to FM over to Sirius, etc, etc., which of course means I will overlap at times and pass through 93.7. The afternoon show, I actually don't mind it. It's background noise most of the time, but it doesn't offend me in the same fashion that Fillaponi or Cook does. If the afternoon show is the last thing that was on in my car when I got home from work, that would mean there's a good chance that it will be on the morning show in the AM when I leave for work.

Could I turn it off? Sure I could, but some of the time it's like being in disbelief as far as what they're talking about. You are a morning drive show in a major US city with three professional sports teams (all with reasonable amounts of success this year, I might add), and you're gonna talk about body waxing and dressing in drag?

Short answer:
It's the trainwreck factor. Just when I say "how much worse can it yet?", it somehow finds a way.

I guess the Fan doesn't take texts anymore. I sometimes text in to Colony or Dunlap and have been getting a message that my message has been received. Other times, I get an error.

I noticed that the hosts no longer say text into 47625, so I guess they went and eliminated that. I could see it being eliminated because of something dumb that one person did that ruined it for everyone -- sending harassing or threatening messages perhaps.

Not that they really cared what the Fans thought anyways, that was just the premise behind the whole station.

I heard rumors some of the hosts were harassing callers after the shows since they had access to their cell phone numbers. Maybe The fan decided to shut it down before someone took it too far.

Gotcha. I think I can figure out who would do that. I wouldn't want somebody texting me at 2 AM unless it's a family emergency. I like the guy's on air persona but wouldn't want to get on his bad side.

Ron Cook today was beating his Penn State apologist drum. Then he had the nerve to try and appeal to the common man by claiming he doesn't have 2 nickels to rub together most days. He's beyond insufferable. The PSU thing was annoying because its been talk about to death and what was the point of talking about it again.

I heard on one of the shows last week (I think) that they were working on an improved text line and it would only be down temporarily.

I wonder if a Paul Zeise text is just him rambling and making noises that don't make sense.

So basically his Twitter account? I get so sick of the guys at the fan using twitter as some sort of I told you so tool, of the fact they they do nothing but over zealous exaggerations of fans in this town. I had to unfollow dunlap, the bald dude from the afternoon show because that's their entire shtick most of the time.

He's a long-time producer - going back to ESPN radio 1250 - and is a great guy.

With #Pirates struggling, is it time to talk #Steelers yet?

Poni, Zeise, and the Vin-Man on the Showdown tonight. Apparently Kanye, Justin Beiber, and Bomani Jones were unavailable.

edit: and LOL Vinny's cell phone rings on air. :)
