111107-G-0000A-001-FV Wizard radio call
KODIAK, Alaska - Communications Station Kodiak watchstanders receive a call for a medevac of a 28-year-old man from the 150-foot Seattle-based fishing vessel Wizard 60 miles north of Cold Bay Nov. 7, 2011. A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter safely hoisted and transported the man to emergency medical personnel in Cold Bay. U.S. Coast Guard audio by Communications Station Kodiak.

Who made the call to the Coast Guard? Doesn't sound like Keith.

Don't know. I follow the ships from DC on Twitter and this showed up on the Cornelia Marie's feed. I don't think they start Red Crab yet.

Premier and 100th episode tomorrow to begin the new season. Just watched the "Best of Season 7" episode and some teaser vids for next year. Apparantly, they are going to stat as the guys pack up and leave their families. And like said here earlier - Edgar is back and the CM is not going out - Jake and Josh are on separate boats.

I'm excited. I love this show. Its not the same without Phil, and I hate the ramblin rose, and Wild Bill.. I saw them in the previews, but I hope they follow a new boat or two this season since Cornelia isn't around.

Good first episode. Got right into the action. Some interesting things look to be happening this year. They previewed a lot of pain to come. Going to check out the "deckhands" special episode that played after the premier here soon on my dvr.

Good first episode but the beginning about
Spoiler:
stacking red crab pots and then deciding to go for blue
felt like it was staged for the show.

Rambling Rose is still annoying. And the Kodiak. The Kodiak is like the Hells Kitchen of Deadliest Catch.

Kinda wish both would disappear.

Rambling Rose Cap'n needs full-time subtitles. Can't understand the majority of what he's saying.

Wild Bill hires clueless guys and then expects good performance? That's on him.

Lots of hate on the Rambling Rose and Kodiak and I get it, but I think that is the point. The idea is to show a different array of personalities and operations. I think those boats make the show a bit more well rounded beyond the typical Northwestern, Time Bandit, and Wizard which have three different personalities taking after their captain....on top of those you get the other boats that have more problems or different motives. They may be annoying, but that is the idea. The show maybe gets you to root for/against certain people/boats.

I know I have said to myself something along the lines of "If I want to work the hardest and get the most money maybe I work for Sig...the most fun maybe Time Bandit...most likely to die/kill the captain - Ramblin Rose"

Exactly why I said it's the Hell's Kitchen of DC... a bunch of incompetent employees and a leader that screams a lot.

Frankly, I've been rooting against him since he cut Russell loose a couple seasons ago when he was actually busting his ass and trying to mentor all of the young guys. Then he was left with a bunch of apathetic/incompetent losers.

As for the Ramblin' Rose... I just dislike the captain.

I don't know if I will be able to watch this season. I was a huge CM fan and with her not going out, I don't know if I can really get into it.

I hate the Ramblin' Rose also

Yes and it only confirmed what I've already known for years. I wouldn't last 10 minutes on a crab boat.

Meh. The Cornelia Marie without Phil last season was a damn joke. It's better off not sailing with the circus that ensued. The loss of Phil really hurts the show.

The qutoes being cut is being played up too hard.

The quota's being cut dramatically increases the cost of crab and reduces how long boats have to be out there. So just because the quota gets cut in 1/2 doesn't mean they earn 1/2 the money. I am sure the increase in cost of crab doesn't come close to making up for the lost crab, but when you add all the little things like spending less on fuel, food and bait and spending a lot less time out at sea and then add in the profits for being able to use that extra time to fish another fishery would be enough to keep those boats afloat during the bad years of the crab quota.
