I know, it's pretty shocking that Leonys Martin would look at that same pitch three straight times and not even bother to swing.

I saw somebody post this last night on FB. Not the exact graphic, but the mention of every one of Rivera's pitches not being close to the zone and getting "reputation strikes".

I saw someone post a graphic about that. Looks like a pitcher has a lot of late movement on their pitches. Is Rivera a guy that has late movement on their fastball? I'm not familiar with the guy at all and know nothing about his repertoire.

One could also check out the pitch f/x, or just watch the game, and see that the outside pitch was being called a strike fairly consistently and the low strike wasn't. It's what you get when you have human umpires.

Thats not convenient to the argument though. Good pitchers don't make adjustments based on what an umpire is calling. Surely you know that.

Yeah how dare Joe Nathan throw two strikes that aren't right down the middle against the Yankees and expect them to be called strikes.

Not bueno for Braves fans. Fortunately Beachy will be back shortly. I guess Medlen will retain a spot.

So looking like the braves will get the dodgers in the NLDS right? how do you feel about that matchup?

If they're not playing a one game playoff, I feel good compared to last year. The Braves have been bad for 2 months now though, I'll have to see how things go in August and September. If the playoffs started now, I wouldn't expect the Braves to beat anyone thats currently in the playoff picture.

Yeah, very true. Braves are slouching and the rest of the division is in now position to take advantage of that. They have some time to get their collective **** together. The Dodgers look like world beaters, but they were plenty terrible for a long time and I wouldn't be super confident counting on Ramirez and Puig to carry you in the playoffs.

The rest of the division has been in position to take advantage since the beginning of June. The braves are 2 or 3 games under .500 in that time and have gained a game and a half lead over second place. Remember when the East was arguably the best division in baseball for more than a decade? Now its quite possibly the worst. :pop:

I worded that wrong, the rest of the division is not in a place to take advantage of it...they're also scuffling.

Not sure why the Nationals are so bad this year...but, i'm fine with that, i was happy when the cardinals knocked them out of the playoffs last year. They're still loaded going forward with that rotation, but outside of Desmond and Harper (and Werth as their stuck with that contract most likely), their core position players are nothing to get that excited about.

The Phillies are stuck in 2008, but with those loaded coffers, the NL is better off with them continuing to throw good money after bad.

Phillies fans are howling about this in talk radio down here. I think their most recent four game slide has ended all optimism.

Braves starter Tim Hudson suffered a gruesome ankle injury in a collision with Eric Young Jr. that will keep him out for the season in Atlanta's Pyrrhic 8-2 victory over the New York Mets. "I feel terrible," an inconsolable Young said after the game. "It should have been me. Or anyone on our team. That's why the Mets exist. So that this sort of thing doesn't happen to everybody."

I think it's funny how they were rightfully touted as the Yankees of the National League....they're basically the yankees with a weaker farm system.

2 outs, men on first and second.
E. Gattis struck out, reached on wild pitch, R. Johnson scored, F. Freeman to third on catcher J. Buck's fielding error

You only score this way against the Mets.
