Thats apparently what the Nats are gonna play him as. Thats what they're talking about right now on the draft show.

Yeah, I'm listening to it. I'm a bit surprised by it as well. They must think he as an absolute stud hitter and don't really care about the catching aspect, just want to keep the bat in as long as possible. And yeah, that does move up his arrival time to the majors. Interesting.

I agree with what Reynolds is saying. The appeal is that bat as a catcher. Obviously this makes his bat better, but it changes the way you look at him.

Makes it about a 1-1 1/2 year timeframe now probably. Instead of the 3-4 year timeframe that it would take him to make it as a catcher.

I'd say 2012 season at the soonest.

Nats are going to probably try and push him through asap. With Strasburg (sp?) coming up now, they'll want their picks playing sooner, especially those with a bat. He's played OF this year, so its not a completely new position for him.

Thats true, but players just don't go through that fast. He's only 17. Even great hitters don't make the majors before 20. There are no players under the age of 21 in the Majors right now.

I agree, but they're not going to push him so hard that it hurts his development. Strasburg was obviously ready and was 4 years older. The Nats have to think big picture.

WE still have to hear it like 45 times before the end of the compensation picks.

Almost braves pick time! I've only had to wait like 3 hours for it. I think they're actually going to go for a position player with their first pick.

Braves working on a comeback from down 7-1. Now 7-3 with bases loaded in the 8th. David Ross batting.

...and he's hit by the pitch. 7-4 bases still loaded with 1 out. I like it, I like it a lot.

F. Only one run out of that.

It would be nice if Dan Haren could put together a couple good starts in a row for my fantasy team.

So is moving Harper to the OF smart or dumb? He'll obviously be able to get to the majors faster, but his offensive production will also have to be better to be worth it. I believe Olney said he's the first player drafted as a corner outfielder #1 since Strawberry. I'm wondering if part of this is to reduce his signing cost as well.

I don't think it will help with the signing. Boras might use it to argue that Harper would have been happier as a catcher. I really think it devalues his bat, which was great when framed by the fact that he was a catcher.
