Cool moment tonight as Jeter and Pettitte went to the mound to pull Rivera out with two out in the ninth. He broke down in tears in the mound. Last game for him at Yankee Stadium.

He's always wanted to play in the outfield. Girardi was asked about it a few days ago, and said maybe he'd do it against the Astros for an inning.

Yeah, a freak injury. That's why you do at the end of his career.

I'm sure this one will get the "I need to object to anything on the Internet" crowd frothing at the mouth, because they can't bothered to imagine that the provider of the stat also knows that there is a context:
Mariano Rivera’s 42 career postseason saves are more than any other franchise.

I'm a Yankees (fan) hater. But you have to respect What Rivera's been able to accomplish. It's extremely impressive.

If he had a son, he would look like Mariano Rivera.

I should say, 1,284 hits and walks combined, for a WHIP of almost exactly 1

My two favorite stats from a Jason Stark article:

He pitched more post-season innings than Schilling, Carpenter, and Pedro.

58 of his post-season appearances were more than one inning. He had an ERA of 0.53 in those appearances.

I feel like the people here would love Mariano Rivera if he played for a team other than the Yankees.

Even as someone who long hated the Yankees (though now it's more of an indifference since I lost most interest in baseball during the dark days of the Buccos)... you have to respect Rivera. At this point, A-rod is the only person that I knowingly dislike on that team.

I've actually bunted like that before. When done correctly, the ball basically drops with little to no roll.
