Is this a joke? I want him fanning Jeter with palm leaves as Jeter rests by the pool.

Houston tried to get creative and instead ended up not signing their #1 draft pick. While I have some sympathy in that it's ridiculous teams have to be judicious with their signing bonus money while they can fritter away millions on relief pitchers, they tried to back out of an agreement with Aiken to save money and Aiken wasn't going for it.

I'm glad the Cardinals finally got a Sunday night game. Finally getting some respect and attention from espn. Seems like it's almost been an entire week since their last appearance

Some teams that are dealing with the Phillies say they are having difficulty gaining traction in talks;not sure if PHI committed to dealing.

Of course they aren't committed. They still think salvation is one free agent signing away.

Speaking of Philly, they reportedly told the Dodgers they wanted LA's top three prospects (Pedersen, Seager and Urias, all top 20 prospects according to Baseball America) for Hamels. Uh, good luck with that.

I hope Ruben Amaro, Jr. is in Philly forever.

They have no interest at all in melting that team down and starting over. It's glorious. They can't give away Howard. Pieces that should have value (Burnett and Byrd) are hard to move because Amaro gave them dumb contracts that depress their value. Because he can't get value anywhere else Amaro is trying to make it all up with the Hamels deal.

And I'm not sure what it would take for the Phillies to muster the stones to fire him, either. The Phillies make the Flyers appear completely estranged as far as being all in the family goes. Larry Bowa, for instance, is on his 4th stint with the team.

This Corey Kluber guy is pretty good. Over his last 3 starts he has gone 26.2 innings with 28 strikeouts, 3 runs given up (2 of which were earned), and has only walked 1 batter. Tonight he pitched a complete game shutout where he only threw 85 pitches.

I just saw the red/marlins controversial tag out at home. Lol. It may be worse than the reds/pirates debacle

Amazes me that Philly couldn't find anyone to take Marlon Byrd off their hands. His contract kinda sucks but you're telling me the Yankees can't afford $8M for a 4th outfielder in 2015?

Amaro has no idea what he's doing. But hey, rack up those wins that will only hurt your draft position. Keep that 70 win team together.

Last year the Reds were dumb enough to let Byrd pass through waivers to get through the Pirates. (That probably should have gotten Jocketty fired.) If I think I have a shot at contending this year and Byrd is on waivers I claim him just so he can't burn me.

Paul Maholm tore his ACL covering first. And not the same ACL that he's destroyed a handful of times.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams ... ries.shtml

The 2015 Reds have $80M committed to 10 players. They'll likely pick up Cueto's $10M option, which takes them to $90M. Chapman has a $5M player option that he'll probably turn down and opt for arbitration. Latos and Leake will head into their 3rd years of arbitration. Frazier and Mesoraco go into their first years of arbitration after having All-Star seasons. They'll be paying Homer Bailey $10M next year which jumps to $18M in 2016. While they don't have anyone of major importance becoming free agents (Ludwick has a mutual option), they'll be limited in what they can really do thanks to their existing contracts. Normally you'd think a team in this situation might try and make an all-in push, but they don't have any significant prospects. Not only did they not push, they didn't raise the white flag and try to start rebuilding. When you look at the guys the Cards, Pirates and Cubs have coming up it's hard to see the Reds as currently constructed doing much in the Central. There was talk Latos might be available at the deadline and I would imagine they trade him or Leake at the very least.

They also have to really hope that Votto's loss of power is injury-related and his power will rebound or else they're doomed.
