50 inning high school game in Japan. The pitch count Nazis will hate this game. The winning pitcher threw 709 pitches in 50 innings, and the losing pitcher through 689 pitches. That has to be a record.

Thats like 180 a day, i wonder what kind of damage they did to their arms. The baseball culture there is bizarre.

To go along with the 709 pitches, he threw 77 the next day in a relief appearance.

Baseball is such a weird game. It seems like the more focus the sport puts on limiting pitch counts and protecting pitchers, the more arm injuries pitchers suffer.

Indians are activating Jason Giambi from the DL. I had no idea he was still around.

Veteran first baseman Carlos Pena remembered one of his frequent encounters with Ichiro. He was defending first for the Tampa Bay Rays, and Ichiro had just arrived on one of his patented infield hits. Ichiro peered over at Pena and asked, "Que coño tu mira?," or, "What the hell are you looking at?" Pena clamped his lips together to prevent the laughter from bursting through.

Anyone catch the 2-6-3-4-5-3 non-contact double play the Red Sox put on the Yankees last night? Weird game all around. McCann took a wicked nut shot from a foul tip but stayed in the game. Nava got picked off standing up at first after trotting back to the bag instead of running/sliding. Just weird awesome bad September baseball.

McCann always takes abuse. He takes more foul balls off him than any other catcher I've watched. I have no idea why though.

It was funny because the next pitch was a two-strike dirt ball and he just kicked it away rather than running it down, eveyone gave him an understanding pass on it.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/11496 ... -fast-umps

Joe Torre is full of crap.

1) The home plate umps aren't the ones calling players out by a mile safe. That call is coming from New York.

2) "Torre goes on to remind umpires that even before the season, MLB's original instructions dictated that in situations where a runner was clearly out by a wide margin, "if the runner would have been called out notwithstanding the catcher's improper positioning in front of the plate, the out call will stand."

Again, it's not the umpire on the field doing that. In the Reds/Marlins game that touched off the latest controversy the home plate umpire ruled him safe and could be heard telling NY "don't reverse it".

3) "At another point in the memorandum, Torre hinted that MLB believes managers have been appealing too many plays at the plate and delaying games unnecessarily."

They're appealing the plays because there's a 50/50 chance it will get reversed by the clowns in the main office who still have no idea what to do with a rule they had to have.

That’s not what Yost did. With the game on the line, he didn’t use Wade Davis, his eighth-inning specialist with the 0.70 ERA who’s been better than any other reliever in the league this year.1 He didn’t go to Kelvin Herrera, the right-hander who’d allowed one run in his last 34 innings. He chose Aaron Crow, the righty who pitched so poorly in August that K.C. sent him to the minors rather than hang on to him until rosters expanded. This is the same Crow who’d surrendered two runs on two walks and a hit in his most recent outing, also against the Red Sox.

Yost said he went to Crow in the 6th and not Herrera because Herrera's the 7th inning guy and Crow's inning is the 6th. This all sounds vaguely familiar...

I'm enjoying that Washington has won their division and that Minnesota and Texas are the two worst teams in the AL.

Yeah, i'm pretty sure its not the Braves fan in me that hates them...in fact, I love when the Braves play them.

They just seem like a team of players that belong on reality TV.

I am completely biased in this, but it would be hard to find a superstar athlete in any sport over the last 30-plus years who has been as amazing as Jeter, from start to finish.

Just curious, but does anyone oppose Pete Rose being reinstated/voted into the HoF? I think it's absolutely ridiculous in this era of HGH and whatnot that he is still blacklisted.

:thumb: Despised him as a player, especially his spiking of the ball when he caught the third out at first base for the Phillies, but he was a phenomenal player.

Posted in every clubhouse: If you bet on baseball, you will be banned for 1 year. If you bet on your own team, you will be banned for life. There's nothing unclear about that.

As far as players using PED's every player who ever took a greenie or bennie to get up for a game because they were too tired or hungover or whatever is using a PED. If you start banning players now for using, start clearing out the HoF.
