Atlantic City

Postby PensHckyFan79 on Thu May 13, 2010 9:36 am

My wife is taking me to Atlantic City for a long birthday weekend, we are staying at Caesars. Any suggestions, ideas, comments, must see, must avoid, overall advice?

-the Borgata is the best people watching place and the "trendy" spot. it also has the best poker room. but you need to take a cab to get there.
-the Tropicana is the 2nd best, and is a lot easier to get to from where you're staying
-drinks are free if you're gambling and are ridiculously expensive if you're not
-if you want to gamble/get free drinks for a while, but don't want to risk a lot of money, bet on horses. it's an underrated way to chill out in a casino
-black jack will be expensive at the better casino's on the weekend, so if you want to play that game on a budget, go to one of the smaller, crappy casino's

if you're into hold em, i could give you a few more tips

I second the Sportsbook idea....I would bet on a horse every half hour or so, and just sit there as the drinks came

I love Caesars and the Borgata. Borgata is on the other side of town (marina side, not oceanside).

The Pier Shops at Caesars can be fun to walk around and browse. Some high end shops. All the way out towards the ocean is center court area featuring a "dancing fountain" that plays every 1/2 hour or so. The court area is three stories tall so you can watch from several angles. Beyond that area is a ocean viewing area outdoors that is nice if the weather is good. (Are you coming this weekend?)

For cheap eats and drinks, the Irish Pub is the place to go. It's been around for a while and each day offers a lunch special featuring a sandwich and soup for $2.95. It's called the "Poor Richard" special. Everything else is reasonable as well. Domestic pints are about $1.65.

There will be lots of guys offering to give you a push cart ride from one casino to another. You can easily say no thanks or take them up on their offer. They are all licensed, but I would make sure you know your fare before getting in.

What games do you play? Some casinos just have mediocre to no poker rooms, others are better.

Good luck and have a great time!

I like harrah's...the poker room is small and its usually a fun time. the indoor pool/club area is pretty awesome as well.

Watch out for the seagulls on the boardwalk. They are plentiful and fearless, and will poop bomb you if you aren't careful.

Ya I'm going this weekend. My table game of choice is blackjack. I want to play some hold 'em but I feel I would have to leave my wife alone for a few hours to get into a table and everything and I've never played poker outside of the local games 50-60 people tournament

Eveywhere has blackjack, you will likely be looking at $15 minimums (occasionally $5-$10) for the weekend.

Poker, you can find a place that has Sit and Go tournaments with just one table of players or just play a $1-$2 No Limit cash game. That way you don't really have to commit hours. Not sure of Caesar's poker room, but the Taj Mahal always has something going on.

The last time I was in Atlantic City was for my bachelor party last June. So we go to Hooters for dinner, start drinking yada yada. Go gambling for a bit. Buy a case of beer to take it to some seedy BYOB strip club. My drunk friend drops the case of beer on the sidewalk and cans go flying everywhere. I see someone pick up a can and I look up and he looks like he just stepped off a pirate ship. He had a nub for one arm and a malformed hand on the other and so help me god he picked up that beer can and somehow POPPED THE TAB JUST USING THE NUB. That will forever amaze me and later on I got a "dance" from a woman that could protect Big Ben on the offensive line.

Well they blew up the chicken man in Philly last night now they blew up his house too
Down on the boardwalk they're gettin' ready for a fight gonna see what them racket boys can do
Now there's trouble bustin' in from outta state and the D.A. can't get no relief
Gonna be a rumble out on the promenade and the gamblin' commissions hangin' on by the skin of its teeth

Everything dies baby that's a fact
But maybe everything that dies someday comes back
Put your makeup on fix your hair up pretty and meet me tonight in Atlantic City

Well I got a job and tried to put my money away
But I got debts that no honest man can pay
So I drew what I had from the Central Trust
And I bought us two tickets on that Coast City bus

Now our luck may have died and our love may be cold but with you forever I'll stay
We're goin' out where the sand's turnin' to gold so put on your stockin's cause the night's getting cold and maybe everything dies
That's a fact but maybe everything that dies someday comes back

Now I been lookin' for a job but it's hard to find
Down here it's just winners and losers and don't get caught on the wrong side of that line
Well I'm tired of comin' out on the losin' end
So honey last night I met this guy and I'm gonna do a little favor for him
Well I guess everything dies baby that's a fact
But maybe everything that dies someday comes back
Put your hair up nice and set up pretty and meet me tonight in Atlantic City

Eat at Ri Ra, play mini-golf... stay close to the boardwalk.. and second the seagulls. Those things are EVIL.

See if there's anything going on at the House of Blues in the Showboat Hotel & Casino.

For cheap drinks and eats The Irish Pub on St. James (less than a block off boardwalk and safe).

Bally's Wild West Casino bar has $2 Coors Lights and some others all the time. Other drink specials rotate but are affordable.

Don't go to any gentlemen's clubs in town, about 10 minutes away on Delilah Road is where you want to go.

Yes, the gentlemen's clubs in town are quite shady. We went to a BYOB one, and my friend dropped several cans of beer on the ground as we waited in line outside the club. This one homeless guy comes up that has a stump for one arm, proceeds to pick up the can of beer with his good hand, and somehow flips the tab of the beer with his nubby elbow. He didn't ask, but he deserved it after that.

I had a lot of fun at and Irish style pub on the 2nd floor of the Tropicana. The first night I was there a live band was playing lots of 90s rock covers.

The cheapest beer we found was in the Tropicana on the beach side across the hall from Hooters. I think High Life was like $2 or $3 a bottle.

No kidding. AC is the most depressing place I've ever been in my life.... and I'm from Altoona. Even on the Boardwalk it's kinda dumpy and low rent. But you get more than a couple hundred feet inland from there it's urban plight as far as the eye can see.

Don't mean to poo poo your trip, but seriously.
