Billy Sheehan > John Entwistle.... but not by much.
Don't know if you know this, but Paul Gilbert is sort of a yinzer-by-address like Christina Aguilera. And I would suggest that there were four musical studs on that stage, but I don't really want to make a fight of it. (We've all heard VHIII, and..... well, it can't exactly be defended, can it?)
Billy's fingerstyle technique is far better than John's and I'm a fan of John. There are few who can do what Billy does as well as he, though it pains me sometimes when people who don't know Billy's stance on songs and playing in general (groove, feel, melody in basslines) see only the technician in him. Usually those who don't know him or his bands, specifically Talas and Niacin. He is more song and groove oriented than most bassists. That's not directed toward you, of course.
Greatest thing I loved about John was not his technique, but rather his monster sound and his willingness to solo his butt off. Wish we had more guys like that around.
This is a cool one from John. Man, that sound. One of Billy's icons is John Entwistle.
