Ended up snagging .40 S&W today for roughly 15.00 a box online thanks to a promo code that wasn't supposed to work. So good.

Nice. That was a good price even before the Great Ammo Shortage.

I love this time of year, as it represents the time when gun makers start to introduce their new products. Case in point is the new S&W 929, an 8-shot Performance Center revolver chambered in 9mm and built on the N Frame:

Me likey. Whether me can afford is another question entirely.

Yes anything under .30 cents a round for .40 a&aw is a steal these days.

For the first time in the United States, a citizen who has legally registered a gun will have to submit to a renewal process. The consequences of not knowing about this new law or missing the specific 60-day window are dire.

Starting on Jan. 2, every single D.C. resident who has registered a firearm since 1976 must go to police headquarters to pay a $48 fee and be photographed and fingerprinted.

They should charge that same 48 dollars, and photographed and finger printing for voter registration as well......

To harass and inconvenience law-abiding gun owners, who the statist politicians that run D.C. don't think should be allowed to own guns in the first place.

Its part of the Anti 2A playbook, Create as many obstacles as possible and make it as inconvenient as possible to legally own a gun. Thus making more people less willing to own a gun and therefore less likely to make a stink about future more strict and more inconvenient laws.

New-for-2014 gun alert: the Remington R-51 pistol.
http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2014 ... 51-pistol/

It's a single-stack, single-action 7+1 pistol in 9mm that is based on the same operating mechanism as the original Remington Model 51 of 1918 to 1927. Much like a Springfield XD, the only external safety is a grip safety. Supposedly the MSRP will be $389.

In related news, Magpul has confirmed that they are leaving Colorado for Texas (corporate offices) and Wyoming (manufacturing).

Interesting. I'm betting something like taxation is the reason for separating management from manufacturing. Or the head honchos would just rather live in Texas.

Neither state has personal income tax, but Wyoming also does not have a corporate tax. If the corporate HQ is in Texas, doesn't that mean they will still have to pay corporate tax on the revenue of the entity as a whole? For example, my company is an Illinois corporation, and I'm pretty sure we pay taxes in both CA and IL.

Yeah, can't believe they squeezed a 9mm in there at $350. This is comparable to a .380 both in price and size, but not stopping power.

I like it so far, but I want to see an picture of that gun and the Ruger LCP or S/W Bodyguard next to each other.

I dont like the LCP. I have bigger hands and the slide pinches my skin plus I can only get 1.5 fingers on the grip (i do want to feel this one and see if it's any bigger). The Bodyguard is a nice equivalent but it's going to cost you at least a hundred more.

I bought a Ruger LC9 for my wife as her carry weapon, and it fits my hand very well despite that fact that I'm kind of an ogre. It's a touch bigger than the LCP, we got it because it has a slide safety which I think is important for a purse gun.

I CC my M9, if thats any indication of relative size. ;)

My wife has the bodyguard and I carry the LCP on occasion. We use the smaller .380's for when our clothing doesn't allow for a holster on our waistbands. It super easy to just grab the LCP off the dresser and put it in our pocket when running out for something quick. I figure the small .380s are better than carrying nothing.

Me personally carry the LCP because it doesn't have the manual thumb safety. When carrying a gun it should be in a holster (period). I don't like having to worry about the thumb safe when micro seconds matter. Think of the close range that you would be in during a unfortunate event that you would need to use the gun. I am also not an advocate of purse guns either for a couple of reasons, #1 the bad guy is going to grab the purse first, #2 its very hard to draw a gun out of the holster while its in purse. #3 how often is that purse set down somewhere, like in a shopping cart, on the stand at the register, on the floor of the bathroom stall on the table while eating and etc. I would much rather be in total control of my gun at all times.

If your wife chooses to carry in a purse please make sure she keeps the firearm in a holster in a dedicated pocket in her purse which has NOTHING else in it besides the firearm and the holster.

Back to the thumb safe, each person needs to make their own decision on what they feel. There is no right or wrong answer to the question, its all about personal feelings. Just make sure you train correctly for whatever decision you chose. I hear all too often I have a thumb safe, but I keep it off when carrying. That is all said and good, but you should ALWAYS click the thumb safe off and never assume its off because that one time you need the gun and go to fire it, you know that thumb safe will have accidentally get clicked on. So just get in the habbit of always clicking off the thumb safe when you draw the firearm from the holster.

Also about those close combat firearms, I don't worry too much about comfort or how accurate your bullseye is. As long as you can put two or three rounds in the size of a paper plate at 1 to 5 yards you will be good. Its not a range toy.

My cc is a Taurus pt740. I really wanted a thumb safety and carry it in a IWB N8^2 professional series holster

Sorry, I was using 'purse gun' as a colloquialism. Though the dangers of carrying a gun in a purse you mentioned are interesting, and mostly stuff I never would thought of, especially the theft bit. I worked 911 dispatch for a while and people left guns in a surprising number of places so loss doesn't really surprise me. Because my wife is a paralegal and does business at the courthouse almost daily it's not practical for her to carry a gun in her purse. The LC9 mostly lives on the nightstand and in the glove box. It's not exactly at-the-ready in the glovebox but under the circumstances its the best she can do.

If your hands are too big for the LCP, try the Ruger SR9C. I believe it's a shade bigger. I use it as my carry and don't have any problems with slide bite and the like. Also love that it has an ambidextrous thumb safety, I hate guns that don't have safeties on them and this one is easy to flip off during draw.

The SR9c is a big step up from the LCP. They are two totally different guns. The 9C is more akin to a Glock or S/W M&P. Its a double stack mag as well. Its even a huge step up from the LC9 as well (which is bigger than the LCP). Having said that, the SR9 is my second carry choice next to the the M&P line. They are very reliable gun. I just think its a totally different gun and not really comparable to a LCp or LC9. The LCP isn't even a 9mm, its .380.

Judge strikes down key part of Chicago gun ordinance
CHICAGO— A federal judge Monday stripped away a key element of Chicago's gun ordinance, ruling that it was unconstitutional to prohibit licensed gun stores from operating in the city.

U.S. District Judge Edmond Chang said Chicago had failed to persuade him that banning the sale of guns by licensed dealers was necessary to reduce gun violence that has plagued the city.
