Richard Harrow was my favorite character on the show. Very, very unhappy with his demise. John Huston should get some Emmy love.

This season just flew by...very fast. I was surprised to see that it was already the season finale. Great season.

I saw that and think I'm OK with it. 5-6 seasons seems to be the right length for a show before it starts losing steam. Also, while I've enjoyed BE, I've never found it to be compulsory viewing. I'm a little excited to see if the replacement in that time slot can be something better.

Anyone watch the season premiere?

A few thoughts....

Spoiler:
- Obviously not the greatest show in the world, but I am sad that this is the last season (and that it is only 8 episodes).

- Typical season premiere for Boardwalk -> Kinda slow, but some brutal scenes, and was more or less a set up for the rest of the season.

- Loved the Rothstein character. Sucks that we don't get to see him anymore and didn't get to see his death.

- Can't wait to see what Nucky does to retaliate towards Lansky (since he obviously went to Cuba to take Nucky out / probably steal the Baccardi business)

- Have no idea how they are going to pack everything in to the last 7 episodes, specially since we haven't seen major characters like Eli, Capone, Narcisse, and Van Alden yet.

- Still doesn't make sense why that one guy pulled a gun on Chalky. So that he could talk on the phone for him?

i loved it. their cinematography is top notch.

I loved the hinting at it in the last season with the gambling binge. glancing over it was a misstep (understandably...how do you fit it in with the time lapse?) but with such a ruthless, cunning character, he deserved an end.

that machete/cleaver(?) scene was in the same vein as when the butcher scene a couple of seasons back. great stuff. that juxtaposed with him teaching the young kid how he does business was an excellent callback to his flashback learning how to do business when he was sweeping the floor for a dollar.
- Have no idea how they are going to pack everything in to the last 7 episodes, specially since we haven't seen major characters like Eli, Capone, Narcisse, and Van Alden yet.
the last 3 episodes are going to be pretty awesome

i assume them to be setting up for the next episode...that didnt make a lot of sense to me, but i didnt think much of the scene.

I enjoyed the episode. Seems wild that they have to wrap everything up in only 7 episodes, so I'm thinking we're gonna see a lot of action.

It's really a shame they had to skip six years. Not exactly what the writers had in mind, I'd think.

Well, it's 8 episodes and one is already done, so that leaves 7.

Yeah, I just can't understand why they shortened it. The other seasons were all 12 episodes, right?

I'm not quite feeling it this season yet. It seems that so many of the characters have become separated and locked into their own individual story lines that there's little cohesion in the overall plot.

I'm also not sure I get Nucky's motivation in his stock "one last big score and I'm out" plot. We get the vague sense that things haven't gone well for him in the skipped years, but he still seems fairly affluent and well-connected. So, without knowing more of the background, it's hard for me to understand why he doesn't just "retire" now.

Yeah, so far this season seems kind of thrown together. I almost wish they'd have left it end with Richard's death. Everything so far this season has been pretty pointless. Unless it improves big time, it's going to be a disappointing final season.

I really wish they had left Margaret and Jimmy's mom out. Don't like 'em.

It does seem a bit disjointed atm... Hopefully they can pull it all together.

If it were a standard length season, I would agree... but I'm concerned with only 5 episodes left to tie everything up.

I can at least see how Margaret is going to come back into the fold (even if I wish she wasn't)... Jimmy's mother should have been left out... I can't imagine a scenario where she makes the main story more interesting at this point. And Chalky... man, I get that he would be fairly destroyed by what happened with his daughter, but I'm struggling to see how he's going to fit back in at this point.

The stuff with Jimmy's mom is such a waste. Her story should have ended with going to jail. Actually, everything this season has been a waste of time, imo. Boardwalk Empire was one of my favorite shows before this year but this season is pointless so far. :(

Ok, so I enjoyed the last episode. But I have a problem... there are only 4 left. I have a feeling that things are going to feel very rushed from here on out. If this were a standard length season, I'd be exstatic about this episode... it was everything a good BE is for me. I like getting to see where Nucky came from... but given that there are only 8 episodes, was it a wise decision to spend time there?

I hope they prove me wrong and these last 4 episodes are amazing, but I am worried.

I'm fine with any excuse they come up with to keep Gretchen Mol on the show.
