LCD monitor question

So my 17" CRT which was 8 years old died. Got a new 19" LCD yesterday and it's great. Except when the background is dark, like this site, it has a weird buzzing sound. It's not too loud but if it's quiet it's noticable. Anyone know what is casing this?

Just did a quick search and there are others with that issue. What manufacture/model is it? How easy would it be to return it?

Just out of curiousity, when you crank up the brightness a bit does it go away?

It's a Westinghouse I got at Best Buy so it should be very easy to swap and return. I'm using the onboard video but I am going to try a Radeon 32MB AGP card and maybe even try the DVI connection after installing that if I can find a cable. Adjusting the birghtness didn't really do much either. I also have only two refresh rates come up on auto detect, 60 and 75. Tried both, no difference. I also searched for drivers but found nothing on the Westinghouse site.

It's a shame, the whole thing was $300 including tax and looks great, no dead pixels, good color and brightness. Just a very low buzzing. I'm betting it's the video adapter though, at least I hope.

Just one more thing to consider, although it shouldn't be a problem. You don't have the monitor in close proximity to a lit flourescent bulb, do you? I used to have a monitor that was shielded so poorly, that the frequencies of the monitor and light would play hell on each other, with the light strobing and the monitor making a quiet screeching noise.

Nope, it's completely fine with a light back ground and the buzz only comes up when the background is very dark, like this site. You ever get a buzz on your TV when the picture is very, very white and bright? It's like that but reversed and not nearly as loud.

Yep, and it is the same principle with the frequency response. If it isn't settings, I would look first to the video card, like you are doing. As I am sure you know, not all of the onboard video controllers are the best quality.

I know, I took it out when I was having some power issues with my USB WiFi and never got around to putting it back in after I switched to a PCI WiFi card.

OK, so the new AGP card did not fix it. A DVI cable did not fix it. A replacement of the same brand did the same thing. So Westinghouse sucks. I'm glad I found this out on a $300 19" LCD before I migth have spent $3000 on a 37" LCD HDTV.

I exchanged it for a MAG Innovision from best buy, 19", analog only but no weird noises and it's a decent monitor for the price if anyone needs a 19" LCD on the cheap and wants to go through an actual store and not roll the dice online.
