All I can say is, if you get a temporary crown on your root canal, make the followup appointment for ASAP.
I had one and my entire tooth cracked like a walnut while I was eating a cactus omelette.
It was like a gun going off in my mouth.

that hurts just reading about it. its been way too long and when i got it filled the dentist said "thats gonna need a root canal in a year" well that was like 4 years ago and ive just been putting it off. i just want to get it all done at once.. i have real sensitive teeth i think.. i cant eat a hershey kiss without pain. but i also do think i def have some cavities even though i havent had one all my life (except this 1.. and it was like a chipped tooth that turned into a cavity which has now probably turned into a root canal) FML

I have horribly sensitive teeth....sweet foods make my molars send needles of pain through my head. I have gone to the dentist for it, who chalked it up to a filling that fell out, but the repair didn't fix it.

I can't speak to the sedation part, but ignoring a root canal is no good.
Infections to can lead to heart problems, etc.
Trust me, I know how awful it is, but just go ahead and get the work done.

I've never been to one, but my company does advertising for a lot of them. They are designed for people like you. Eliminates the anxiety b/c you are out. If it's the only way you'll get through it, just do it.

I know exactly how you feel mac. Going to the dentist is probably my biggest fear in life. I wish they could put me out during routine cleanings. It's just pure torture to me......I wouldn't even say the pain is that bad its just the anticipation and something about it freaks me out. Luckily I found a new dentist that is extremely gentle and awesome. Unless you're around Warminster/Doylestown area though I guess that's not much help.

Yeah, I recently had a 13-year old root canal that failed and the root 'socket' got infected. Had to be cut out of my skull by an oral surgeon, and a bone graft (from a cadaver) inserted so an implant could take.

Novocaine only. Ooh rah.

I had 5 wisdom teeth removed at the same time while I was awake. That was the worst experience of my life.

Dentists are the scariest people alive. I hate going to the dentist. But, I also have a morbid fear of my teeth going bad. Catch 22
