I'd give Chess with Friends a look. I prefer to play over e-mail with notation, though.

How do you jailbreak an iPhone? Nevermind, I'll Google it. I lost the warranty anyway

It honestly takes about 2 minutes as long as you aren't on an iOS version that doesn't have a jailbreak.

Download the jailbreaking app, download the iPhone firmware, plug your iPhone in, follow the instructions on the screen (basically pushing the power/home buttons) and you're done. :D

It's nice when you are reading something in Safari or playing a game - if you get a text you can respond right away instead of switching to the SMS app, typing the message, sending it, then switching back to the other app only to repeat the process when the next text comes in.

Same if you want to send a new text while you are in safari. You can create it without going into the SMS app.

really..im assuming this is an iphone app? that annoys the crap out of me. will try it out.

Yeah, it's an app that acts just like the SMS/Messages app, but you don't really need to use it. When you receive a text, you get the normal text box, and then you can tap Reply to text back without switching apps.

Gotta be jailbroken for that one too. Sorry. :?

you cant really minimize it. the 'multitasking' is a bit of a misnomer as you still have to leave whatever app you are in and enter the text app

Go to Settings -> General -> About

Your will see the firmware under Version. I am on 4.2.1 which can be jailbroken (obviously). I think 4.3.1 can be now, too. Check out http://www.tipb.com that is where I usually go to find out if a firmware can be jailbroken, and they have links to what you need plus instructions.

NICE. Learn to love Cydia (the jailbreak App Store).

Basically, after you jailbreak, the only difference you notice is that Cydia is there (and the Apple logo turns into a skull when it is booting up). Open that up, install whatever updates it yells at you about, restart, and then check out all of the apps/themes/etc.

I used to jailbreak but found it messed up the stability / battery-life on my iPhone. Eventually, Apple steals all the good JB stuff and adds it in.

That's what I was most surprised about when I got the iPad. There is no way to switch between applications without having to restart every time. Good for the battery life, I'm sure, but also feels very constricting to me and makes it difficult to use the iPad as a laptop replacement unless I have only one thing that I am looking to do, which is fairly rare.

Yeah, it definitely can. I have found on 4.2.1 that as long as I don't install Winterboard for themes, it has been really stable. I get the occasional springboard crash, but that's about it.

It will be interesting to see if Apple puts quick-text and lock screen stuff in iOS 5. Pretty pointless to jailbreak if they do that.

So don't install Winterboard and I should be ok stability wise?

I am hardly ever using my iPhone when it isn't plugged in, so not too worried about the battery.
